Accurate stratification of an ovarian mucinous neoplasm as primary or secondary is always challenging as they show overlapping histomorphological and immunohistochemical features. Immunohistochemical staining for SATB2 and PAX8 was performed on 80 cases of mucinous ovarian neoplasms subdivided into 53 primary [25 primary ovarian mucinous carcinomas (POMCs) and 28 mucinous borderline tumors (MBTs)] and 27 secondary (12 of colonic origin, 7 of appendiceal origin, and 8 of gastric origin). Expression was correlated with different clinicopathologic parameters.

Article Synopsis
  • Cancer stem cells (CSCs) significantly contribute to bladder cancer tumorigenicity, with CD133 and CD24 serving as key biomarkers impacting patient survival based on their varying expressions in different tumor types.
  • Analysis of 60 patients with urinary bladder carcinoma revealed that higher expressions of CD133 and CD24 were associated with more aggressive tumor characteristics, such as high grade, muscle invasion, and advanced stages of cancer.
  • The study indicates that the CD133 CD24 phenotype demonstrates the most aggressive tumor behavior, suggesting that targeting these biomarkers could help identify high-risk patients for more intensive therapies.

Loss in apoptosis competence often results in augmented genomic instability contributing to carcinogenesis. Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (CcOI) can help assess apoptosis resistance in paraffin-embedded biopsies. In total, 50 colorectal cases including 10 control cases of colectomy for non-neoplastic condition, 15 cases of adenomatous colorectal polyps, and 25 cases of colorectal carcinoma were investigated in this retrospective study for immunohistochemical expression of CcOI.

Background: Although accumulating data has implicated a role for the Apelinergic system in cirrhosis, the role of Apelin during different stages of fibrogenesis has not been clarified, whereas no studies have been conducted on its expression in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to elucidate its role in hepatic remodelling and carcinogenesis.

Methods: Immunolocalization of Apelin was compared during different stages of HCV-induced liver disease (n=123).

Screening mammography improved early detection of breast cancer and since then, the percentage of patients with node involvement is declining. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), although helpful in the diagnostic armamentarium of these patients, has consequential limitations. In these patients, moreover, lymphatic invasion (LI) is of utmost importance to determine the risk of local recurrence.

Background: Few studies have reported the expression of Hepatocyte Paraffin 1 (Hep Par 1) in colorectal carcinomas with contradictory results. Reported rate of expression ranged from 4-50%. Moreover, the correlation between Hep Par 1 expression and clinicopathological parameters has not been investigated.
