A rational synthetic pathway towards a series of -P-bearing multi-decker complexes was developed. The combination of [Cp*Fe(μ,η-P)] (A) with low-valent transition metal cations yields a series of triple-decker complexes [Cp*Fe(μ,η-P)MCp'''][WCA] (M = Cr - Ni; WCA = weakly coordinating anion, Cp''' = 1,2,4-BuCH). Utilizing the arene complexes [M(CR)][WCA] (M = Fe, Co) instead allowed the synthesis of the unprecedented -P-containing quadruple-decker complexes [{Cp*Fe(μ,η-P)}M][] (M = Fe, Co).

Recent synthetic approaches to a series of [P] salts ( = [F{Al(OR)}], [Al(OR)], and (R = C(CF)); GaCl) overcome limitations in classical synthesis methods that proved unsuitable for phosphorus cations. These salts contain the homopolyatomic cation [P] via (I) oxidation of P with NO[F{Al(OR)}], (II) the arene-stabilized Co(I) sandwich complex [Co(arene)][Al(OR)] [arene = -difluorobenzene (-DFB) and fluorobenzene (FB)], or (III) the reduction of [PCl][GaCl] with Ga[GaCl] as Ga(I) source in the presence of P. Quantum chemical CCSD(T) calculations suggest that [P] formation from [Co(arene)] occurs via the nido-type cluster [(-DFB)CoP], which resembles the isoelectronic, elusive [P].

We investigate the magnetic field dependent photophysics of individual nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond under cryogenic conditions. At distinct magnetic fields, we observe significant reductions in the NV photoluminescence rate, which indicate a marked decrease in the optical readout efficiency of the NV's ground state spin. We assign these dips to excited state level anticrossings, which occur at magnetic fields that strongly depend on the effective, local strain environment of the NV center.

Background And Aims: COVID-19 vaccination has been in the spotlight for almost a year now, both within the scientific community and in the general population. The issue of healthcare workers' (HCWs) hesitancy is particularly salient, given that they are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. Not only could unvaccinated HCW spread the disease, but HCWs are also critical messengers in building confidence towards COVID-19 vaccines.

Globalization is routinely blamed for various ills, including fueling conflict in strategic locations. To investigate whether these accusations are well founded, we have built a database to assess any given location's strategic importance. Consistent with our game-theoretic model of strategic interaction, we find that overall fighting is more frequent in strategic locations close to maritime choke points (e.

COVID-19 and Conflict: Major Risks and Policy Responses.

Peace Econ Peace Sci Public Policy

September 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic entails a medium- and long-run risk of heightened political conflict. In this short essay we distinguish four major consequences of COVID-19 that may fuel social tensions and political violence, namely i) spiking poverty, ii) education under stress, iii) potential for repression, and iv) reduced inter-dependence. After discussing them in turn, we will formulate policy recommendations on how to attenuate these risks.

This article shows that higher ethnolinguistic diversity is associated with a greater risk of social tensions and conflict, which, in turn, is a dispersion force lowering urbanization and the incentives to move to big cities. We construct a worldwide dataset at a fine-grained level on urban settlement patterns and ethnolinguistic population composition. For 3,540 provinces of 170 countries, we find that increased ethnolinguistic fractionalization and polarization are associated with lower urbanization and an increased role for secondary cities relative to the primate city of a province.

Condensed phase access to the unprecedented tetrahedral cations [EP] (E = S, Se, Te) was achieved through the reaction of ECl[WCA] with white phosphorus ([WCA] = [Al(OR)] and [F(Al(OR))]; -R = -C(CF)). Previously, [EP] was only known from gas phase MS investigations. By contrast, the reaction of ECl[A] with the known P synthon Na[Nb(ODipp)(P)] (enabling AsP synthesis), led to formation of P.

The discovery of ferromagnetism in two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) crystals has generated widespread interest. Making further progress in this area requires quantitative knowledge of the magnetic properties of vdW magnets at the nanoscale. We used scanning single-spin magnetometry based on diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers to image the magnetization, localized defects, and magnetic domains of atomically thin crystals of the vdW magnet chromium(III) iodide (CrI).

Many promising applications of single crystal diamond and its color centers as sensor platform and in photonics require free-standing membranes with a thickness ranging from several micrometers to the few 100 nm range. In this work, we present an approach to conveniently fabricate such thin membranes with up to about one millimeter in size. We use commercially available diamond plates (thickness 50 μ m) in an inductively coupled reactive ion etching process which is based on argon, oxygen and SF 6 .

We report on direct, real-space imaging of the stray magnetic field above a micro-scale disc of a thin film of the high-temperature superconductor YBa₂Cu₃O (YBCO) using scanning single spin magnetometry. Our experiments yield a direct measurement of the sample's London penetration depth and allow for a quantitative reconstruction of the supercurrents flowing in the sample as a result of Meissner screening. These results show the potential of scanning single spin magnetometry for studies of the nanoscale magnetic properties of thin-film superconductors, which could be readily extended to elevated temperatures or magnetic fields.

Many environmental data are inherently imbalanced, with some majority land use and land cover types dominating over rare ones. In cultivated ecosystems minority classes are often the target as they might indicate a beginning land use change. Most standard classifiers perform best on a balanced distribution of classes, and fail to detect minority classes.

Microscopic studies of superconductors and their vortices play a pivotal role in understanding the mechanisms underlying superconductivity. Local measurements of penetration depths or magnetic stray fields enable access to fundamental aspects such as nanoscale variations in superfluid densities or the order parameter symmetry of superconductors. However, experimental tools that offer quantitative, nanoscale magnetometry and operate over large ranges of temperature and magnetic fields are still lacking.

Statement Of Problem: The accuracy of mental navigation is thought to depend on the clinician's spatial ability. Mental navigation, therefore, is associated with deviations between the mental plan and the definitive implant position. To learn more about the deviation that might occur, it is important to evaluate the accuracy of mental navigation during placement of implants.
