Objective: The variability in outcomes among adult cochlear implant (CI) users poses challenges for clinicians in accurately predicting the benefits of the implant for individual candidates. This study aimed to investigate the accuracy and confidence of clinicians in predicting speech perception outcomes for adult CI users one-year post-implantation.
Design: Participants were presented with comprehensive information on pre-implantation, one-month post-implantation, and six-month post-implantation data for 10 case studies.
The relationship between dopaminergic treatment and freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's disease (PD) is complex: levodopa is the most effective symptomatic treatment for FOG, but long-term pulsatile levodopa treatment has also been linked to an increase in the occurrence of FOG. This concept, however, continues to be debated. Here, we compared the occurrence of FOG between a levodopa-naive PD cohort and a levodopa-treated cohort.

Purpose: Although level I evidence is lacking that radical cystectomy (RC) is superior to bladder-preserving therapy (BPT), RC is still advocated as the recommended treatment in patients with nonmetastatic muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). This study sought to compare the survival of patients with MIBC treated with BPT versus those treated with RC.
Methods And Materials: All patients with nonmetastatic MIBC diagnoses were identified via the population-based Netherlands Cancer Registry.
An Elimination Diet (ED) may be effective in reducing symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but has never been compared to an active control condition [i.e., Healthy Diet (HD)].

Since its introduction experience increased and the technology evolved, leading to better results and relaxation of CI eligibility criteria. Meanwhile, with national healthcare costs increasing there is a need for evidence of healthcare technology's value.

The current study focused on the long-term outcomes of MBCT for chronically, treatment-resistant depressed patients during a 6-months follow-up period. Additionally, predictors of treatment outcomes were explored.

Especially for tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), pharmacogenetics may be of interest because therapeutic plasma concentrations are well defined, identification of optimal dosing can be time consuming, and treatment is frequently accompanied by adverse effects.
Objective: To determine whether PIT results in faster attainment of therapeutic TCA plasma concentrations compared with usual treatment in patients with unipolar major depressive disorder (MDD).
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine if prophylactic mesh placement is an effective, safe, and cost-effective procedure to prevent parastomal hernia (PSH) formation in the long term.
Background: A PSH is the most frequent complication after stoma formation. Prophylactic placement of a mesh has been suggested to prevent PSH, but long-term evidence to support this approach is scarce.
Background: One third of cancer patients and survivors experience psychological distress. Previous studies have shown that online mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (eMBCT) supports cancer patients and survivors in managing distress. Lack of peer support and asynchronicity during online interventions have been reported as barriers for treatment adherence and can result in higher drop-out rates.

Methods: In this multicenter, noninferiority trial, we randomly assigned infants with echocardiographically confirmed PDA (diameter, >1.5 mm, with left-to-right shunting) who were extremely preterm (<28 weeks' gestational age) to receive either expectant management or early ibuprofen treatment.
Objective: Dual pathway inhibition (DPI) by combining acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) with low-dose rivaroxaban has been shown to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) when compared to ASA monotherapy. A potential explanation is that inhibition of factor Xa improves endothelial function through crosstalk between coagulation and inflammatory pathways, subsequently attenuating the occurrence of cardiovascular events. We hypothesize that the addition of rivaroxaban to ASA in PAD patients leads to improved endothelial function.

There is, however, little guidance on when and how to conduct a meta-analysis of human-health-related animal studies. To gain insight about the methods that are currently used we created an overview of the key characteristics of published meta-analyses of animal studies, with a focus on the choice of effect size measures.

However, the aforementioned studies analysed negative values in isolation, which causes selection bias as the value distribution is truncated.
Aim: To investigate the validity of aforementioned studies and of negative values in general.
Background: Controversy exists about the optimal management of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants. A persistent PDA is associated with neonatal mortality and morbidity, but causality remains unproven. Although both pharmacological and/or surgical treatment are effective in PDA closure, this has not resulted in an improved neonatal outcome.

Methods: Data were collected from three clinical studies in mCRPC patients treated with abiraterone acetate. Cox regression analysis was used to determine the relation between abiraterone exposure and survival (progression-free survival [PFS] and overall survival [OS]).
Background And Aims: Ibogaine is an indole alkaloid used in rituals of the African Bwiti tribe. It is also used in non-medical settings to treat addiction. However, ibogaine has been linked to several deaths, mainly due to cardiac events called torsades des pointes preceded by QTc prolongation as well as other safety concerns.

Therefore, an elimination diet (ED) might be an effective treatment for children with ADHD. However, earlier studies were criticized for the nature of the control group, potential confounders explaining the observed effects, unsatisfactory blinding, potential risks of nutritional deficiencies and unknown long term and cost-effectiveness.

However, sequential, follow-up interventions are needed to further improve outcome for this group of patients. One possibility is to cultivate mechanisms thought to support recovery from depression, such as (self-)compassion.

MSmonitor (Curavista bv) is an interactive Web-based program for self-management and multidisciplinary care in multiple sclerosis (MS). It includes, among others, short questionnaires on fatigue (Modified Fatigue Impact Scale-5 [MFIS-5]) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL, Leeds Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life [LMSQoL]); long questionnaires on disabilities, perception of disabilities (Multiple Sclerosis Impact Profile), and HRQoL (Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54); a Medication and Adherence Inventory and an Activity Diary.

Currently used time trade-off methods face problems in (1) detecting time-dependent preferences and (2) insensitivity toward severity for states worse than dead. The better-than-dead (BTD) method has the potential to detect time-dependent preferences.

Objective: We performed a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to investigate whether regular screening with the distress thermometer (DT) by a nurse improved global quality of life (QOL) of patients with breast cancer (BC) treated with curative intent.
Methods: BC patients were randomized between regular screening for distress with a nurse-led DT intervention (NDTI) and usual care (UC). Both groups filled out questionnaires at baseline, after each received treatment modality and at follow-up visits up to 2 years.
