Antibiogram Surveillance to Determine Appropriate Initial Empiric Antibiotic Therapy for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia.

Our protocolized empiric antibiotic therapy for early (≤7 d) ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and late (>7 d) VAP based on our local antibiogram leads to inappropriate empiric antibiotic therapy (IEAT) approximately 15% of the time. We reviewed our trauma intensive care unit (TICU) antibiogram to determine if sensitivity patterns were changing and warranted protocol adjustments. We hypothesized there would be no change in IEAT over time.

Fibrolamellar carcinoma (FLC) is a primary liver cancer with a poor prognosis, primarily due to the lack of effective chemotherapeutic options. The DNAJB1-PRKACA (DP) gene fusion is recognized as the key oncogenic driver in FLC. This fusion arises from a ∼400 kb heterozygous deletion on chromosome 19, which fuses exon 1 of DNAJB1 with exons 2-10 of PRKACA, the gene encoding the catalytic subunit of protein kinase A (PKA).

Objective: To study the demographic characteristics, risk factors, management details and clinical outcomes to 12 months corrected age in indigenous and non-indigenous infants with chronic neonatal lung disease in North Queensland.

Design: Retrospective cohort study of infants with chronic neonatal lung disease admitted to a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit in regional Queensland from January 2015 to December 2019.

Results: There were 139 infants with chronic neonatal lung disease and 425 controls.
