Trekking is a popular activity associated with cardiovascular benefits. The aim of the present study was to investigate changes in the submaximal heart rate, oxygen uptake, oxygen pulse, and blood lactate concentration associated with a 6-day mountain walk. Over a 12-year period, 134 male (age 21.

Studies investigating pancreas volume are underway to assess pancreas volume in large clinical databases and studies, but manual pancreas annotation is time-consuming and subjective, preventing extension to large studies and databases. This study develops deep learning for automated pancreas volume measurement in individuals with diabetes.

Hence, this research aimed to compare the effectiveness of story-based audiovisual mnemonics and the conventional text-reading method on medical students' memory consolidation.
Methods: A single-center, systematically randomly sampled, single-blinded, controlled study was conducted among 80 first-year medical students.
Floating thrombus in a carotid artery is an uncommon pathology with a high risk of embolism. We present three patients diagnosed with acute stroke, with a floating thrombus complicating an atheromatous plaque, who were treated with anticoagulants and statins. Although two patients had satisfactory results, one patient suffered a stroke related to plaque progression nearly 3 years after initial presentation.

This study was designed to assess the accuracy of cerebral multislice computed tomographic angiography (CTA) and CT perfusion (CTP) in diagnosing BD.
Methods: Prospective observational study in 27 BD patients.

BD was diagnosed by clinical examination, electroencephalogram (EEG), Transcranial Doppler (TCD) and multislice CT of 64 detectors. Initially, a brain perfusion study was performed. This was followed by supra-aortic trunk and brain artery angiography with acquisition of images using 0.

(2005), is a necessary but not sufficient development for the systematized use of research in managerial practice. Although significant progress in the use of evidence-based approaches can be witnessed, enriching efforts need to progress within both the management and research communities.

December 2005
Over the post decade, provincial governments have embarked on ambitious plans to better integrate their healthcare systems, through the introduction of regional governance and management structures. The objective of this study was to examine physicians' perceptions of the current level and facilitators/barriers to integration in three Western Canada Health Regions. Three approaches to integration were investigated: functional, clinical services, and physician system integration.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to measure the effect of repeated distension arthrography combined with an intensive program of rehabilitation on pain, range of motion, and occupational outcome in patients with adhesive capsulitis.
Pancreatic injuries caused by blunt trauma are unusual but associated with a high morbidity and a high mortality because of a delay in diagnosis. Clinical and laboratory findings are non-specific. Accurate grading of blunt pancreatic injury with identification of pancreatic duct disruption helps to define practical treatment guidelines.

The Authors report an unusual case without underlying psychiatric context. Gastric necrosis was suspected based on imaging findings (plain radiograph and computed tomography).

When the aneurysm is totally thrombosed, it is impossible to distinguish it from another cause of mediastinal mass. A case is presented in which partial thrombosis of the aneurysm and communication with the superior vena cava led to a diagnosis on angiography and CT.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA wide spectrum of pathologic processes can involve epiploic appendages, and primary epiploic appendagitis is the most frequent. Pathologic processes are today more frequently identified with the increased use of radiological assessment (ultrasound and computed tomography) of patients presenting with acute abdominal pain. Recognition of specific imaging abnormalities of complications enables the radiologist to make the diagnosis, thus allowing appropriate treatment.

It is particularly important to recognize this radiographic picture in order to avoid misdiagnosis, e.g.

A density of ten Hounsfield units or less with a nonenhanced CT is a feature of benign incidentaloma (essentially lipid-rich adrenal adenomas). There are two limitations of this characterization: incidentalomas initially detected at enhanced CT and lipid-poor adrenal adenomas.

The BSF is composed of two bifid hooks linked by a compression transverse connector and inserted into the costo-vertebral and costo-transverse joints. The aim of this biomechanical study was to determine the loading tolerance of the BSF.

At seven weeks in a septic setting, the patient developed ischemic cholangitis. Ligation of the hepatic artery and dissection of the hepatic hilum to remove a neurofibroma have played a role in the development of ischemic cholangitis.
