The European catfish ( Linnaeus, 1758) was introduced into the Ebro Basin in Spain in 1974 for recreational fishing. Since then, the species has spread throughout the country's river basins, reaching the Iznájar Reservoir (Guadalquivir River Basin) in 2011. This area is of great ecological and economic relevance, especially as it includes the Doñana National Park, one of the most important nature reserves in Europe.

The objective of this study was to develop and characterize a novel hyaluronic acid (HA) 3D scaffold integrated with gelatin microparticles for sustained-delivery applications. To achieve this goal, the delivery microparticles were synthesized and thoroughly characterized, focusing on their crosslinking mechanisms (vanillin and genipin), degradation profiles, and release kinetics. The goal of this study was to ascertain the potential real-world effects of RNS on cognitive, psychiatric, and quality of life (QOL) outcomes in relation to seizure outcomes by examining 50 patients undergoing RNS implantation for drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE).
Methods: We performed a retrospective review of all patients treated at our institution with RNS for DRE with at least 12 months of follow-up.

Objective: To explore the co-expression network of the osteoarthritis (OA) risk gene WWP2 in articular cartilage and study cartilage characteristics when mimicking the effect of OA risk allele rs1052429-A on WWP2 expression in a human 3D in vitro model of cartilage.
Method: Co-expression behavior of WWP2 with genes expressed in lesioned OA articular cartilage (N = 35 samples) was explored. By applying lentiviral particle mediated WWP2 upregulation in 3D in vitro pellet cultures of human primary chondrocytes (N = 8 donors) the effects of upregulation on cartilage matrix deposition was evaluated.
Introduction: Obesity and overweight affect more than one-third of the world's population and pose a major public health problem.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of an educational intervention on dietary habits and physical exercise in patients with overweight admitted to departments of internal medicine, comprising a pre-discharge educational session with follow-up and reinforcement by telephone at 3, 6, and, 12 months post-discharge. Outcome variables were weight, systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressures, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), hospital readmissions, emergency department visits, and death.
Objective: Based on the promising results of randomized controlled trials, deep brain stimulation (DBS) and responsive neurostimulation (RNS) are used increasingly in the treatment of patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. Drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is an indication for either DBS of the anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT) or temporal lobe (TL) RNS, but there are no studies that directly compare the seizure benefits and adverse effects associated with these therapies in this patient population. We, therefore, examined all patients who underwent ANT-DBS or TL-RNS for drug-resistant TLE at our center.

The objective of this study was to compare characteristics of patients with diverse phenomenology and their caregivers to evaluate for differences that could inform about disease nosology.
Methods: Patients and caregivers monitored at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit completed surveys about sociodemographic and disease characteristics, treatment and health care utilization, physical and psychosocial impact, and epilepsy knowledge.
Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent joint disease worldwide, yet progress in development of effective disease-modifying treatments is slow because of lack of insight into the underlying disease pathways. Therefore, we aimed to identify the causal pathogenic mutation in an early-onset osteoarthritis family, followed by functional studies in human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) in an in vitro organoid cartilage model. We demonstrated that the identified causal missense mutation in the gelatin-binding domain of the extracellular matrix protein fibronectin resulted in significant decreased binding capacity to collagen type II.
