This work reports the synthesis, characterization, and in vitro release studies of pH- and temperature-sensitive FeO-SiO-poly(NVCL-co-MAA) nanocomposite. FeO nanoparticles were prepared by chemical coprecipitation, coated with SiO by the Stöber method, and functionalized with vinyl groups. The copolymer poly(N-vinylcaprolactam-co-methacrylic acid) (poly(NVCL-co-MAA)) was grafted onto the functionalized FeO-SiO nanoparticles by free radical polymerization.

We report on the optoelectronic properties of a series of unsymmetrical π-conjugated phenyleneethynylene macromolecules bearing ferrocene (Fc) as the electron-donor group (D), (benzyl) benzoate (Bz) or benzoic acid (Ac) as the electron attractor group (A) and connected through 2,5-di(alcoxy) phenyleneethynylene(s) (PE) with = 1, 2, 3 as π-conjugated bridges. In the series, by increasing the distance between the electron-attracting and electron-donor groups, the push-pull effect decreases. The intramolecular charge transfer (D → π → A) was evaluated by static and dynamic spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and density functional theory (DFT) theoretical calculations.

ZnO nanoparticles (NPS) with different morphologies were synthesized, and the antibacterial and anticancer activity was studied, herein. The physicochemical characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-visible. Normal and high amylose corn starches were modified using HMDSO plasma at different time treatments. Changes in functional properties of starch granule, film-forming solutions (FFS) and films were investigated. SEM analysis revealed HMDSO coating deposition on the granule surface, which limited the amylopectin leach out from the granules to the continuous matrix, affecting the rheological properties of the FFS.

A novel, green route for pre-exfoliation of graphite based on a biodegradable polymer and high-power ultrasound is presented. Candelilla wax (CW), derived from the leaves of the candelilla plant, has been used for the first time as a natural non aqueous medium to induce the pre-exfoliation of expanded graphite (EG) under ultrasonic irradiation in an economical way. The proposed method uses also D-limonene as a natural organic solvent for reducing viscosity and increasing the affinity between the polar groups of EG and candelilla wax, thus improving the intercalation/exfoliation of EG.

We report on measurements of a magnetorheological model fluid created by dispersing nonmagnetic microparticles of polystyrene in a commercial ferrofluid. The linear viscoelastic properties as a function of magnetic field strength, particle size, and particle size distribution are studied by oscillatory measurements. We compare the results with a magnetostatic theory proposed by De Gans et al.
