Objectives: The aim of this study was to establish the concordance between conventional 20 Mhz ultrasonography and an ultrawide-field (UWF) imaging system (Optos California) in the measurement of basal diameters of melanocytic choroidal tumors.

Methods: A retrospective study comparing diagnostic tests was conducted in patients with untreated melanocytic choroidal lesions (either nevus or melanoma) who had undergone both UWF imaging and ultrasonography. Only cases with a clear visualization of tumor borders in both imaging modalities were included.

Purpose: Focusing the premature birth and its potential complications, this study analyzes Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) measured by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) and its correlation with the severity of prematurity and neonatal growth.

Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was performed, involving 71 children school-age with history of prematurity and a full-term children control group. Several variables from the neonatal period were collected, such as Gestational Age (GA), Birth Weight (BW), initial Weight Gain (WG) and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).

Purpose: Adalimumab (ADA) is a systemic biological treatment option approved for the treatment of noninfectious uveitis (NIU); however, up to 40% of patients do not respond to the drug, either in a primary or secondary manner. Here, we evaluated the proteomic profile of patients with NIU who fail to ADA to identify proteins implicated in intraocular inflammation, as well as potential biomarkers for treatment response and novel therapeutic targets.

Methods: Cross-sectional observational study of patients with NIU under ADA treatment for six or more months.

In this work, we study the contributions that different molecular blocks have in the wavelength-dependence of the refractive index in ionic liquids. The ionic liquids chosen for this work are combinations of the bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion with cations based on four different heterocycles with different extents of charge delocalization. The analysis is performed in terms of the experimental electronic polarizability, which is obtained by combining measurements of refractive index curves and densities via the Lorentz-Lorenz equation.

Uveitis is a group of inflammatory ocular pathologies. Endotoxin-Induced Uveitis (EIU) model represent a well-known model induced by administration of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The aim is to characterize two models of EIU through two routes of administration with novel noninvasive imaging techniques.

The prognosis of uveal melanoma is significantly influenced by the risk of metastasis, which varies according to clinical and genetic features. Driver mutations can predict the likelihood of disease progression and survival, although the data in the literature are inconsistent. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of driver mutations, including , , , and , in the advancement of uveal melanoma.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of the Silk Vista Baby (SVB) flow diverter for treating small cerebral aneurysms, focusing on long-term follow-up.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 50 patients treated with the SVB between September 2018 and June 2021, noting a low complication rate of 8% during procedures.
  • Results showed a 100% technical success rate, no re-ruptures, and a high occlusion rate of 94% at the 12-month follow-up, confirming the SVB as a safe and effective treatment option.

Inherited retinal dystrophies (IRD) are the leading cause of legal blindness in the working population. Cystic macular edema (CME) is one of the treatable causes of visual loss, affecting up to 50% of the patients. A bibliographic review has been carried out combining "inherited retinal dystrophy", "retinitis pigmentosa", "macular oedema" and a diagnostic-therapeutic protocol according to the levels of evidence and recommendations of the "US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality".

Purpose: To characterize an epiretinal neovascular membrane (ERNM) through multimodal imaging in the context of a patient with Macular Telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel) and ipsilateral concomitant ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS).

Methods: Case report, with ultra-wide field (UWF) retinography, fluorescein angiography (FA), swept source optical coherence tomography (ss-OCT), and OCT-angiography (OCTA). Written informed consent for patient information and images to be published was provided by the patient.

The spine is the third most frequent location for metastatic disease, after the lung and liver. On the other hand, the most frequent bone tumours are metastases and the spine is the main location. A review of the different imaging techniques available, both radiological and nuclear medicine, and the morphological appearance of spinal metastases in each of them is performed.

Understanding phonon transport and thermal conductivity of layered materials is not only critical for thermal management and thermoelectric energy conversion but also essential for developing future optoelectronic devices. Optothermal Raman characterization has been a key method to identify the properties of layered materials, especially transition-metal dichalcogenides. This work investigates the thermal properties of suspended and supported MoTe thin films using the optothermal Raman technique.

The historical stone heritage that we inherit must be passed on to future generations, not only in the same conditions that we found it but, if possible, in better ones. Construction also demands better and more durable materials, often stone. The protection of these materials requires knowledge of the types of rocks and their physical properties.

A key advantage of utilizing van-der-Waals (vdW) materials as defect-hosting platforms for quantum applications is the controllable proximity of the defect to the surface or the substrate allowing for improved light extraction, enhanced coupling with photonic elements, or more sensitive metrology. However, this aspect results in a significant challenge for defect identification and characterization, as the defect's properties depend on the the atomic environment. This study explores how the environment can influence the properties of carbon impurity centers in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN).

We present three cases of patients aged 66, 80 and 23, who presented unilateral vision loss. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) in all of them showed macular oedema and a rounded lesion with hyperreflective wall, and fluorescein angiography (FAG) in two of them showed hyperfluorescent perifoveal aneurysmal dilations with exudation. None of the cases showed response to treatment after one year of follow-up, finally being diagnosed with Perifoveal Exudative Vascular Anomalous Complex (PEVAC).

Article Synopsis
  • Biological drugs targeting TNFα have transformed treatment for non-infectious uveitis (NIU), a serious eye condition, though many patients still don't respond effectively to these treatments.
  • The success of drugs like adalimumab and infliximab depends on various factors, including drug levels in the system, immune responses, and genetics.
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and genetic testing can help personalize treatment to improve outcomes for patients with NIU and other immune-mediated diseases.

In the last decades, personalized medicine has been increasing its presence in different fields of medicine, including ophthalmology. A new factor that can help us direct medicine towards the challenge of personalized treatments is the microbiome. The gut microbiome plays an important role in controlling immune response, and dysbiosis has been associated with immune-mediated diseases such as non-infectious uveitis (NIU).
