Background: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is the most frequently performed bariatric surgery worldwide, offering effective weight loss and improvement in metabolic conditions. However, one of its major complications is the exacerbation or development of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), affecting over 30% of patients. While Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is often the preferred alternative for patients with pre-existing GERD, it may not be suitable for all patients due to contraindications or patient preference.

Hantaviruses are zoonotic pathogens associated with severe human diseases such as hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Despite the extensive study of rodent-borne hantaviruses, research on bat-associated hantaviruses remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the seroprevalence and cross-reactivity of neotropical bat samples with rodent- and bat-associated recombinant hantavirus nucleoproteins (rNPs) to improve hantavirus surveillance in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest.

Snakebite envenomation is a public health issue that can lead to mortality and physical consequences. It is estimated that 5.4 million venomous snake bites occur annually, with 130 000 deaths and 400 000 amputations.

Leishmania infantum is an etiological agent of visceral leishmaniasis, the most severe type of disease that is potentially fatal if untreated. The ubiquitination process has been targeted for leishmanicidal compounds, indicating its essential function in parasite homeostasis.

Methods: A cross-sectional study with 102 patients over 18 years in use of enteral and/or parenteral nutritional therapy and monitored by the Nutritional Therapy Committee between December 2021 and August 2022. All data were collected from electronic medical records.
The National Immunization Program (PNI) is one of Brazil's most significant public health interventions. However, recent years have witnessed a progressive decline in vaccination coverage despite the success of the PNI and the expansion of Primary Health Care (PHC), the main point of entry for the population into health services. To address this challenge, broader strategies are needed, such as identifying areas at high risk for the transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases.

One of the tests requested is for biomarkers, which are important as they can provide data on intestinal functionality, intensity of inflammation, and response to treatment, and can help determine the prognosis. This study aimed to conduct a literature review on the main serum and fecal intestinal biomarkers in dogs and proposed to refine the correlations between these indicators and enteropathies.

As a member of the amino-amide class of LA, ATC possesses unique features, including a thiophene ring and an ester group, which allow for its use at higher clinical concentrations. However, reports have indicated a higher incidence of paresthesia associated with ATC, though the underlying cause of this effect remains unclear.

Method: We performed an overview of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of randomised controlled trials (RCTs), registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024497749). We searched Medline and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
Background: A high-performance sport like soccer requires training strategies that aim to reach peak performance at the right time for the desired competitions. Thus, the investigation of biochemical markers in saliva is a tool that is beginning to be used in athletes within the physical training process. There is still no evidence on universal saliva collection and analysis protocols in soccer.

In this study, ultrasound changes of the orbital lacrimal gland (LG) were described in healthy Shih Tzu dogs and those diagnosed with different intensities of DED. For training purposes, a macroscopic and ultrasonographic study of the orbits of brachycephalic dog cadavers ( = 6) was conducted.

However, predicting electric mobility's future is challenging due to three main factors: technological advancements, regulatory policies, and consumer behaviour. The projections presented in this study are based on several scenarios driven mainly from reports published by public entities and consultants.

Cell Painting is a broadly used image-based assay that uses morphological features to capture how cells respond to treatments. However, this method requires cell fixation for staining, which prevents examining live cells.

Malaria is a serious health problem worldwide affecting mainly children and socially vulnerable people. The biological particularities of , such as the ability to generate dormant liver stages, the rapid maturation of gametocytes, and the emergence of drug resistance, have contributed to difficulties in disease control. In this context, developing an effective vaccine has been considered a fundamental tool for the efficient control and/or elimination of vivax malaria.

In the presented work, we comprehensively characterize the odorant composition of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) raised in RAS and compare the impact of two depuration processes on the odorant composition and aroma profile of the fish. Fish collected from the production tank and after two different tank pre-disinfection approaches in the depuration process (high pH versus HO) were investigated.

Background: Home-based transcranial direct current stimulation (Hb-tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that utilizes low-intensity electric currents delivered via scalp electrodes to modulate brain activity. It holds significant promise for addressing inattention in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, its effectiveness varies among individuals, and predicting outcomes remains uncertain, partially due to the influence of individual differences in ADHD-related brain anatomy.

Benzocaine (BZC), the oldest topical local anesthetic in use, undergoes metabolism by pseudocholinesterase, leading to the formation of -aminobenzoic acid, a causative agent for allergic reactions associated with prolonged BZC usage. In order to mitigate adverse effects and enhance bioavailability, BZC was encapsulated within NLC.

The information available about the application of electric current on dental implant biofilms; its parameters, namely current level, voltage and exposure time; and related effects are still not enough to understand which individual mechanisms are caused by this technique, culminating in the decrease or eradication of the biofilm. The purpose of this narrative review, based on a systematic search, is to understand the effect of electric current directly applied to biofilms present in dental implants and which parameters are used.

The aim of this work was to optimize the process of elaborating liver pâtés and omental lamb fat and to evaluate the quality of the products. Livers and fats were obtained from lambs fed with diets composed of corn and soybean meal that were partially replaced by cupuaçu, tucumã and palm kernel cake. To prepare the pâtés, livers were baked for 20 minutes at 100°C, weighed, seasoned, crushed, packaged and pasteurized.

This study presents an optimized microwave-assisted method for the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a root extract obtained from DC. The influence of temperature, reagent concentration, and irradiation time was systematically investigated to enhance synthesis yield. Characterization techniques including XRD, UV-vis, FTIR, XPS, and zetametry were employed to confirm the successful formation of nanoparticles with a metallic silver core (∼17 nm) functionalized with organic molecules derived from the plant extract.
