Clinical practice guidelines aim to enhance the quality, equality and consistency of care but often demand more time than is available, rendering adherence impractical and exceeding feasible resources. The 2017 introduction of a new periodontal classification system by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) sought to refine clinical and epidemiological practices by serving as the basis for clinical practice guidelines and epidemiological investigations around the world. Following this classification, the EFP recommends supportive periodontal care visits every 3-12 months for all periodontitis cases.

Methods: The sample included 3,308,903 individuals aged 20 to 79 years who resided in Denmark in 2000 and had remained free of RA and periodontitis in the previous 10 years. RA and periodontitis were defined using diagnosis and treatment codes.
Aim: To explore the association between periodontitis and olfactory disorders.
Methods: Clinical data were collected from 198 individuals between the ages of 18 and 60 years living in Denmark. The exposure was periodontitis, and the outcome was olfactory function (Threshold, Discrimination, Identification - TDI score), both measured clinically.
The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI)'s Job Dispatcher framework provides access to a wide range of core databases and analysis tools that are of key importance in bioinformatics. As well as providing web interfaces to these resources, web services are available using REST and SOAP protocols that enable programmatic access and allow their integration into other applications and analytical workflows and pipelines. This article describes the various options available to researchers and bioinformaticians who would like to use our resources via the web interface employing RESTful web services clients provided in Perl, Python, and Java or who would like to use Docker containers to integrate the resources into analysis pipelines and workflows.

Objectives: It is not clear if or how the incidence of systemic conditions like type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects dental service utilization. Using nationwide Danish register data, the aim of this study was to analyse the use of dental services 7 years before and after being diagnosed with DM, RA or IBD between 1997 and 2011.
Methods: Information about incident DM was obtained from the Register for Selected Chronic Diseases and Severe Mental Disorders, and incident RA and IBD were defined based on diagnosis codes of hospital contacts identified through the National Patient Register.
The quiet-time solar wind electrons feature non-thermal characteristics when viewed from the perspective of their velocity distribution functions. They typically have an appearance of being composed of a denser thermal "core" population plus a tenuous energetic "halo" population. At first, such a feature was empirically fitted with the kappa velocity space distribution function, but ever since the ground-breaking work by Tsallis, the space physics community has embraced the potential implication of the kappa distribution as reflecting the non-extensive nature of the space plasma.

Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) and infectious keratoconjunctivitis (IKC) are two viruses that infect wild ruminants. Nevertheless, epidemiological data on herpesviruses in South American wild ruminants are limited.

Over the years, several reviews of periodontal risk assessment tools have been published. However, major misunderstandings still prevail in repeated attempts to use these tools for prognostic risk prediction. Here we review the principles of risk prediction and discuss the value and the challenges of using prediction models in periodontology.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCurrently, periodontal risk assessment finds application at first visit (to identify individuals at high risk of either disease incidence, if still healthy, or disease progression, if already diseased) as well as at patient monitoring after active treatment and enrolment in a supportive periodontal care program. Although the current case definition of periodontitis embeds a prognostic determination (ie, periodontitis grade) that showed a predictive value for periodontitis-related tooth loss, some limitations of periodontitis grade call for the implementation of different risk assessment tools in clinical practice. For some of these, significantly higher accuracy in predicting tooth loss during supportive periodontal care was reported compared with periodontitis grade.

Materials And Methods: Data were collected through a digital survey. A total of 1239 individuals from Aarhus University - Denmark, the University of Iowa, and the University of Florida - USA were included.
Purpose: The aim of this systematic review was to present the current evidence on the clinical use of single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) in the evaluation of noninfected painful knees after knee arthroplasty.
Methods: Embase, PubMed, Google Scholar, Ovid, Scopus, Science Direct and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched from database inception to May 2022 following the PRISMA guidelines. As a primary outcome, we defined the role of SPECT/CT in the diagnostic approach to noninfected painful knee arthroplasty; as a secondary objective, we described the noninfection-related factors linked to painful knee arthroplasty.
Background: Diverse smoking trajectories may influence cytokine expression after non-surgical periodontal therapy and supportive periodontal care. Thus, we aimed to describe cytokine profiles in periodontal healing after periodontal therapy in smokers.
Methods: A smoking cessation program and non-surgical periodontal therapy were offered to 80 smokers with periodontitis.
COVID-19 is affecting different countries and populations unequally. In this sense, sub-Saharan countries represent a particularly vulnerable context due to their unique demographic and health circumstances. A holistic approach to Covid-19 is urged, one that considers the social-cultural contexts of people's lives.

Objective: E-parenting is an opportunity to provide parental support as a universal prevention strategy. This study analysed the extent to which the promotion actions improve universal use of the online course 'Positive parenting: Gaining health and wellbeing from birth to three' (GH&W) (http://aulaparentalidad-msssi.com/) at the primary care centers.

Materials And Methods: Forty-two adults participated in an experimental gingivitis study, comprising a 2-week hygiene phase (clinical examination and professional cleaning); a 3-week induction phase (absence of oral hygiene); and a 2-week resolution phase (re-establishment of oral hygiene). Plaque and gingival inflammation scores were assessed.
Aim: To investigate whether halitosis is associated with impaired oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL).
Materials And Methods: This is a systematic review of the literature. Electronic searches were performed in PubMed via Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, and EMBASE up to and including June 2021.
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic will be remembered as one of the defining events of the 21st century. The rapid global outbreak has had significant impacts on human society and is already responsible for millions of deaths. Understanding and tackling the impact of the virus has required a worldwide mobilisation and coordination of scientific research.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFShort-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are the main metabolites produced by the bacterial fermentation of dietary fiber, and they play a critical role in the maintenance of intestinal health. SCFAs are also essential for modulating different processes, and they have anti-inflammatory properties and immunomodulatory effects. As the inflammatory process predisposes the development of cancer and promotes all stages of tumorigenesis, an antitumor effect has also been associated with SCFAs.
