Conjunctivochalasis is a degenerative condition of the conjunctiva that disrupts tear distribution and causes irritation. Thermoreduction of the redundant conjunctiva is required if symptoms are not relieved with medical therapy. Near-infrared laser treatment is a more controlled method to shrink the conjunctiva than thermocautery.

Purpose: To investigate IL-17 related mechanisms for developing dry eye disease in the Pinkie mouse strain with a loss of function RXRα mutation.

Methods: Measures of dry eye disease were assessed in the cornea and conjunctiva. Expression profiling was performed by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to compare gene expression in conjunctival immune cells.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between subjective and optical measurements used during cataract evaluation, including the iTrace Dysfunctional Lens Index (DLI), the HD Analyzer Objective Scatter Index (OSI), Lens Opacities Classification System III (LOCS III), Visual Function-14 Questionnaire (VF-14), and the Pelli-Robson Contrast Sensitivity Chart (PRCSC).

Methods: Seventy eyes from 70 patients were enrolled, including all stages of age-related nuclear cataracts. The LOCS III-NO with a cutoff of 3.

To compare goblet cell (GC) number and area in the covered superior (SB) versus exposed temporal (TB) bulbar conjunctiva in control versus aqueous tear deficient eyes (ATD) and evaluate correlation with tear MUC5AC protein. SB and TB impression cytology performed on control eyes, Sjögren syndrome (SS) ATD, and non-SS ATD was stained with period acid Schiff. GC number and area were measured with image analysis software.

Purpose: To evaluate crystalline lens and intraocular lens (IOL) tilt using a swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) biometer (IOLMaster 700).

Setting: Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA.

Design: Retrospective case series.

Purpose: Increased interferon gamma (IFN-γ) expression in dry eye causes ocular surface epithelial disease termed keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). The purpose of this study was to investigated the effects of the LFA-1 antagonist, lifitegrast, in a mouse desiccating stress (DS) dry eye model that develops KCS similar to Sjögren syndrome.

Methods: Mice were treated with vehicle or lifitegrast twice daily for 5 days and expression of Th1 family genes (IFN-γ, CXCL9, and CXCL11) was evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction.

Femtosecond laser technology has become widely adopted by ophthalmic surgeons. The purpose of this study is to discuss applications and advantages of femtosecond lasers over traditional manual techniques, and related unique complications in cataract surgery and corneal refractive surgical procedures, including: LASIK flap creation, intracorneal ring segment implantation, presbyopic treatments, keratoplasty, astigmatic keratotomy, and intrastromal lenticule procedures.
