Purpose: To compare the refractive outcomes of sutureless scleral-fixated Carlevale® intraocular lenses versus Artisan® iris-claw-fixated lenses in terms of surgically induced astigmatism.

Setting: We included patients from the Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology Hospital, Paris, from August 2020 to December 2020.

Design: This was a single-center retrospective study.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compared surgical outcomes for retinal detachment repair using air or gas tamponade in 262 patients with superior retinal breaks.
  • Results showed no significant difference in success rates between the air and gas groups at 3 and 6 months, both achieving high success rates.
  • However, the air group had better early visual recovery, lower rates of postoperative ocular hypertension, and fewer incidents of epiretinal membrane formation at 6 months compared to the gas group.

The aim of this study is to report a case of bilateral traumatic maculopathy in a 19-year-old male following blunt trauma during 2020 coronavirus disease-2019 national lockdown. Descriptive case report based on data from clinical records, patient observation, and analysis of diagnostic tests. A previously healthy, 19-year-old male presented for a visit in our department at 15-20 National Ophthalmology Institute with complaints of bilateral decreased visual acuity.

Introduction: To assess the safety and efficacy of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) for ocular hypertension (OHT) induced by a dexamethasone (DEX) intravitreal implant.

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective study of patients who underwent an SLT procedure for ocular hypertension induced by injection of a DEX intravitreal implant. Patients had, at least, one injection of the DEX-implant for symptomatic macular edema.

Background/objectives: To assess the risk of immediate sudden visual loss ("wipe-out" phenomenon) following non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) for end-stages glaucoma within the first 6-months postoperative period.

Subjects/methods: Monocenter database study. We reviewed the results for 73 eyes with severe or end-stage glaucoma that underwent NPDS.

We report cases of delayed, sustained elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with repeated intravitreal anti-VEGF injections (IVI), which ultimately resulted in the need for filtering surgery. Two of the three cases demonstrated severe IOP elevation despite maximal medical treatment following unilateral IVI and required urgent filtering surgery. Optic nerve involvement was severe in all three cases.

Purpose: To report cases of patients with severe bilateral corneal blindness and recurrent refractory perforation to keratoplasty and conventional treatment, for whom Boston keratoprosthesis (KP) was a satisfactory alternative when combined with a temporalis aponeurosis graft.

Description Of Cases: The first patient had progressive Lyell syndrome with spontaneous corneal perforation. The second had a severe graft vs.

Purpose: To report the impact of non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) in severe and end-stage glaucoma treatment on the central 10° visual field progression (mean deviation, four central points, foveal threshold) and assess the risk of sudden visual loss.

Methods: Monocenter database study. We reviewed records of 34 eyes with severe or end-stage glaucoma that underwent NPDS between 2009 and 2015, at the National Ophthalmology Center of XV-XX (Paris, France).

We report the case of anterior chamber migration of a dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex(®)) in a 54-year-old woman with macular edema due to a central retinal vein occlusion. The patient had undergone complicated cataract surgery 5 years previously with a scleral-fixated posterior chamber lens implant. An uneventful intravitreal Ozurdex(®) implant injection was performed.

Purpose: To determine the influence of prognostic factors and the type of tamponade agent in surgical management of intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs) for better visual outcome.

Patients And Methods: Fifty-seven consecutive cases were retrospectively reviewed at the XV-XX National Hospital (Paris) between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2007. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify prognostic variables.

Descemet membrane detachment (DMD) is a rare complication that occurs mainly after cataract surgery. We report the case of a 55-years-old woman who underwent refractive lensectomy. The Day-1 postoperative examination was unremarkable, the Day-7 examination showed corneal oedema related to DMD, which was confirmed by Visante(®) OCT.

Purpose: To report a case of choroidal ischemia in a professional diver after a decompression sickness accident.

Methods: A 31-year-old man presented a decompression sickness accident without any systemic manifestation. The symptoms were exclusively ophthalmic with sudden decrease of vision and presence of scotoma predominantly on the left eye immediately after a dive.

Purpose: To describe our initial experience and to evaluate the outcomes of patients treated with 23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy for a variety of vitreoretinal conditions.

Methods: A single-center, retrospective chart review of 164 consecutive 23-gauge vitrectomy cases done by five vitreoretinal surgeons at the CHNO des XV-XX from May 2006 through December 2007. The main outcome measures included visual acuity and intraoperative and postoperative complications.

Introduction: Microspherophakia is characterized by a decreasing equatorial diameter of the crystalline lens and a relative spherical shape objectivized by an increase in the diameter of the anteroposterior axis. This rare abnormality, leading to severe glaucoma and lenticular myopia, can be sporadic or inherited.

Observation: We report the case of an 18-year-old woman with a history of bilateral angle-closure glaucoma consulting for recurring painful episodes with no relief from medical treatment.

Background: Fungal keratitis is a major blinding eye disease found throughout the world, particularly in developing countries. Given the recent increase in Fusarium keratitis infections in contact lens wearers owing to contact lens solutions, a warning was recently issued by the Food and Drug Administration, making it a public health concern in developed countries.

Objective: To show the advantages of in vivo confocal microscopy imaging using the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II-Rostock Cornea Module (HRTII-RCM) in the early diagnosis of fungal keratitis.

Introduction: Arteriovenous malformations of the brain (BAVMs) are a relatively rare group involving intracranial vascular lesions (telangiectasia, cavernous malformation, venous anomaly). We report the case of a patient who presented an atypical visual symptomatology revealing a BAVM.

Observation: A 48-year-old woman consulted for a recent bilateral visual blur.
