Purpose: This work developed a novel preclinical test of total knee replacements (TKRs) in order to explain TKR instability linked to patient dissatisfaction. It was hypothesized that stability tests on the isolated moving prostheses would provide novel comparative data on the stability and kinematics among TKR designs.
Methods: Three TKR designs, DePuy Synthes Attune MS, Stryker Triathlon and Zimmer Biomet Persona MC, were assessed using a robotic arm while flexing-extending 0-140°.
Background: MRI with xenon-129 gas (Xe MRI) can assess airflow obstruction and heterogeneity in lung diseases. Specifically, Xe MRI may represent a sensitive modality for future therapeutic trials of cystic fibrosis (CF) therapies. The reproducibility of Xe MRI has not yet been assessed in the context of a multi-site study.

However, the correlates of protection are unknown. As the most prevalent tick-borne human hemorrhagic fever virus with case fatality rates of 5%-30% and worldwide distribution, there is an urgent need to fill these knowledge gaps.

Diversity within the United States continues to increase, making it imperative that health care providers understand the impact of cultural background on health behaviors and perceptions. These practices promote trusting patient-provider relationships, improve outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction. In this article, we discuss the 3 largest ethnic or racial minority groups in the United States, Hispanics, African Americans, and Asians, and the intersection of culture and health care through the lens of these distinct communities.

Objective: To describe HCRU and cost during lines of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for treatment-experienced PWH switching to or restarting guideline-recommended, integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based multitablet regimens and single-tablet regimens.
Methods: This retrospective claims study used data from Optum Research Database (January 1, 2010, to March 31, 2020) to identify lines of therapy (LOTs) for treatment-experienced adults who switched to or restarted INSTI-based regimens between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2019.
Objective: Ultrasound speckle tracking enables in vivo measurement of soft tissue deformation or strain, providing a non-invasive diagnostic tool to quantify tissue health. However, adoption into new fields is challenging since algorithms need to be tuned with gold-standard reference data that are expensive or impractical to acquire. Here, we present a novel optimization approach that only requires repeated measurements, which can be acquired for new applications where reference data might not be readily available or difficult to get hold of.

The specific mechanism of action and substrate specificity of these proteins have remained largely unexplored so far. In this study, we elucidate the enzymatic activity of Pru p 1, a PR-10 protein from peach.

Over the years it has not been possible to reach a consensus on a possible prophylaxis of thromboembolic events during intensive therapy. Only the administration of enoxaparin was able to achieve evidence in the literature to date.

Our question is: could water (rain) on the skin contribute to an increase in the survival rate? We measure the influence of rain during high-energy direct lightning strikes on a realistic three-compartment human head phantom. We find a lower number of perforations and eroded areas near the lightning strike impact points on the head phantom when rain was applied compared to no rain.

Methods: Three academic centers randomized participants.
As allergies, especially those triggered by food, are becoming more and more prevalent, it is of increasing importance to fully understand the structures and dynamic behaviors of allergenic proteins along with their interactions with potential natural ligands. Therefore, we have established a solid routine to achieve structural characterization of food allergens, especially for birch pollen-related cross-reactive proteins from the class 10 of pathogenesis-related proteins (PR-10), by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Following expression of the desired allergen in Escherichia coli in isotope-labeled minimal media, the three-dimensional solution structures of these proteins can be determined, and insight into ligand binding mechanics and structural dynamic properties are accessible through NMR spin relaxation experiments.

Introduction: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a connective tissue disorder that has been linked to several neurological problems including Chiari malformations, atlantoaxial instability (AAI), craniocervical instability (CCI), and tethered cord syndrome. However, neurosurgical management strategies for this unique population have not been well-explored to date. The purpose of this study is to explore cases of EDS patients who required neurosurgical intervention to better characterize the neurological conditions they face and to better understand how neurosurgeons should approach the management of these patients.

In mice with targeted gene replacement (TR) of murine APOE with human APOE3 or APOE4, the latter show reduced neuronal dendritic complexity and impaired learning. APOE4 TR mice also show reduced gamma oscillation power, a neuronal population activity which is important to learning and memory.

Besides the social conflict, feces can pose serious health risks to both dogs and humans. In this study we analyzed the extent and patterns of the distribution of dog feces in the urban parks of the City of Calgary.

Although SEPS offers acute decompression of local mass effect from a cSDH, MMA embolization has been shown to reduce the rate of cSDH recurrence. In combination, these procedures present a potentially safer strategy to a challenging pathology.

Here, Short-Form Six-Dimension (SF-6D) scores are analyzed among men in a prostate cancer prevention trial to explore such differences. Selenium and vitamin E cancer prevention trial participants who completed the SF-6D at baseline, and in at least 1 of follow-up years 1, 3, and 5 were included.

Methods: A prospective randomized trial comparing usual care (UC) with an Ostomy Self-Management Training (OSMT) program delivered by telehealth was conducted in patients with ostomies due to cancer.
Background: Newborn screening for cystic fibrosis (CF) has been underway universally in the United States for more than a decade, as well in most European countries, and algorithms have been evolving throughout this period with quality improvement projects as immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT) determinations alone have been transformed to a 2-tier strategy with DNA analyses.
Objective: To apply next generation sequencing (NGS) as a screening method to expand the DNA tier and identify substantially more variants in the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene to enhance sensitivity and equity while minimizing incidental findings.
Design: Sequential evaluation and improvement plan in three phases using algorithm modifications coupled to statewide follow up and analysis of screening outcomes.
