Article Synopsis
- Early physical functional changes after gastric bypass surgery (GBS) were studied to understand their effect on health-related quality of life (HR-QOL), using the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and the SF-36 survey.
- Twenty-five participants completed these measures before surgery and at 3 and 6 months after, with findings showing significant increases in walking distances and improvements in HR-QOL as measured by the SF-36.
- The study concluded that better functional capacity post-surgery was linked to improved quality of life, although walking distances were still lower than those of weight-matched peers after 6 months.
