Granulomatous vulvitis (GV) is a rare chronic inflammatory condition presenting with persistent vulvar swelling and noncaseating granulomas, often mimicking Crohn's disease and sarcoidosis. We report a 21-year-old sexually inactive woman with a five-month history of painless vulvar swelling and occasional itching, complicated by secondary polymicrobial infection. A thorough evaluation excluded other granulomatous diseases, and histopathology revealed noncaseating granulomas, supporting the diagnosis of granulomatous vulvitis.

Background: Pityriasis versicolor (PV) is an asymptomatic, superficial fungal infection caused by the Malassezia species and causes discolouration of the skin leading to altered pigmentation. It is usually a clinical diagnosis, but in doubtful cases wherein potassium hydroxide (KOH) mount is unavailable, alternative modalities like dermoscopy aid in the management.

Article Synopsis
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are serious skin reactions mainly triggered by drugs, and SCORTEN is used to predict their severity and mortality risk.
  • A recent study sought to determine if the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) could serve as a prognostic marker for SJS/TEN by analyzing patient data over four years from a hospital.
  • Although a weak positive correlation was found between NLR and SCORTEN, it wasn’t statistically significant, suggesting that while NLR indicates systemic inflammation, its effectiveness in predicting disease severity needs further research with more patients.

Context: Psoriasis is a common papulosquamous disorder characterized by increased epidermal turnover resulting in excessive skin shedding and a compromised barrier function of the skin. Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is an effective and non-invasive way to measure the barrier function in this condition.

Aims: To measure the physiological changes in the skin barrier function in psoriasis by measuring the extent of TEWL.
