Cooperative MIMO communication systems play an important role in the development of future sixth-generation (6G) wireless systems incorporating new technologies such as massive MIMO relay systems, dual-polarized antenna arrays, millimeter-wave communications, and, more recently, communications assisted using intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In a companion paper, we provided an overview of cooperative communication systems from a tensor modeling perspective. The objective of the present paper is to provide a comprehensive tutorial on semi-blind receivers for MIMO one-way two-hop relay systems, allowing the joint estimation of transmitted symbols and individual communication channels with only a few pilot symbols.

Seaweeds are natural sources of sulfated polysaccharides (SPs), biopolymers with remarkable pharmacological properties, including biological actions capable of attenuating components of the inflammatory process such as edema, cytokines, cell migration and pain. Our results confirm that SPs obtained from Gracilaria domingensis (SP-GD) are agarans, primarily composed of residues of β-d-galactopyranose 6-sulfate and 3,6-anhydro-α-l-galactopyranose. Specifically, SP-GD at a dose of 10 mg/kg was effective in significantly reducing paw edema induced by carrageenan or histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, 48/80 and prostaglandin E2.

Digital microfluidics (DMF) is a platform that enables the automated manipulation of individual droplets of sizes ranging from nanoliter to microliter and can be coupled with numerous techniques, including colorimetry. However, although the DMF electrode architecture is highly versatile, its integration with different analytical methods often requires either changes in sample access, top plate design, or the integration of supplementary equipment into the system. As an alternative to overcome these challenges, this study proposes a simple integration between paper-based analytical devices (PADs) and DMF for automated and eco-friendly sample processing aiming at the colorimetric detection of creatinine (CR, an important biomarker for kidney disease) in artificial urine.

Bioinformatic pipelines are becoming increasingly complex with the ever-accumulating amount of Next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Their orchestration is difficult with a simple Bash script, but bioinformatics workflow managers such as Nextflow provide a framework to overcome respective problems. This study used Nextflow to develop a bioinformatic pipeline for detecting expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) using a DSL2 Nextflow modular syntax, to enable sharing the huge demand for computing power as well as data access limitation across different partners often associated with eQTL studies.
