Background: "Diffuse midline glioma H3K27M-mutant" (a mutation gene encoding H3 histone variants) represents a defined pathologic entity since the 2016 World Health Organization Central Nervous System classification and includes midline structures, namely the thalamus, brainstem, and spinal cord. H3K27M-mutant glioma responds more poorly and is associated with worse clinical outcome. Mutation detection is now diagnostic for "diffused midline gliomas.

Intestinal ischemic-reperfusion (IR) injury has detrimental effects on both local and distant organs in the body. Betanin is known for its antioxidant properties, and it is found mostly in vegetables. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that betanin administration prior intestinal IR, may be beneficial in protecting jejunal mucosa and lung parenchyma against IR damage.

Background: A relationship between the extent of resection (EOR) and survival has been demonstrated in patients with glioblastomas (GBMs). However, despite gross total resection (GTR) of the enhancing nodule (EN), GBMs usually relapse, generally near the surgical cavity.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic role of FLAIR resection of GBMs by analyzing pre- and post-operative MRIs to estimate the EOR of EN, FLAIR-hyperintense regions and total tumor volume (TTV).

Indocyanine green video angiography (ICG-VA) is a non-invasive, easy to use and very useful tool for various neurosurgical procedures. The first application was in neurovascular surgery, because it was born as an intravascular tracer for vessels visualization; this has been really useful in aneurysms, atero-venous malformations (AVMs) and dural fistulas surgery where identification, obliteration or patency of vessels is essential. Introduced in vascular neurosurgery since 2003, ICG-VA applications have broadened over time, both in vascular and in other neurosurgical fields.

Osteoarthritis is a form of chronic joint inflammation caused by the deterioration of the joint cartilage, accompanied by chronic pain, lameness and stiffness, particularly after prolonged activity. Alternative treatments of canine osteoarthritis would be desirable and, recently nutraceuticals, have been proposed for this purpose. Twenty cross breed adult dogs affected by osteoarthritis were enrolled and equally divided into two groups (control vs.

One in 50 women presenting to an orthopaedic clinic with an injury have been injured from intimate partner violence (IPV). This number does not include the additional patients who have experienced psychological or emotional abuse. Musculoskeletal injuries, such as fractures, sprains, strains, and dislocations, are the second-most prevalent injury type after head and neck injuries that occur after physical violence.

Background: Hemostasis is the dynamic equilibrium between coagulation and fibrinolysis. During pregnancy, the balance shifts toward a hypercoagulative state; however placental abruption and abnormal placentations may lead to rapidly evolving coagulopathy characterized by the increased activation of procoagulant pathways. These processes can result in hypofibrinogenemia, with fibrinogen levels dropping to 2 g/L or less and an associated increased risk of post-partum hemorrhage.

Background: Preoperative embolization is often considered mandatory in highly vascularized brain tumors to contain blood loss. However, not all lesions are amenable to endovascular preoperative embolization. In the literature, cases of preoperative and intraoperative embolization are described only by arterial catheterization, whereas experiences of tumor embolization through direct puncture of the lesion are anecdotal; furthermore these cases lack an intraoperative control method to assess the effects of the embolizing procedure itself.

Ongoing studies investigating fracture healing have uncovered and allowed investigators to gain a better understanding of where the variety of cells, which participate in this process, originate, and how they communicate as well as how they can be enhanced to successfully heal a fracture when the process has slowed or failed completely. This brief review will highlight some of the recent findings regarding the role the immune system in fracture healing and how these cells communicate with each other during the healing process. In addition, two 2 methods that have recently been shown to be promising techniques in supporting fracture when it stalls or reversing the process, when the fracture has failed to heal, will also be described.

Background: Neurosurgical diseases have a devastating impact on society. It is estimated that approximately 14 million essential neurosurgical cases develop worldwide annually, of which more than 80% arise in low- and middle-income countries. Neurosurgical cadaveric dissection remains largely unexploited as a learning tool for the training of surgeons in developing countries, often because of the assumed high costs.

Background: Pelvic ring-comminuted transforaminal sacral fracture injuries are rotationally and vertically unstable and have a high rate of failure.

Objective: Our study purpose was to use three-dimensional (3D) optical tracking to detect onset location of bone-implant interface failure and measure the distances and angles between screws and line of applied force for correlation to strength of pelvic fracture fixation techniques.

Methods: 3D relative motion across sacral-rami fractures and screws relative to bone was measured with an optical tracking system.

Objective To validate the Italian translation of the Glasgow Composite Measure Pain Scale – Short Form (ICMPS-SF) in order to assess acute pain in dogs. The original English-version of the scale (the Glasgow Composite Measure Pain Scale – Short Form - CMPS-SF) was translated into Italian according to a standard protocol to ensure linguistic and cultural validity. Nine Italian veterinary surgeons then recorded pain scores in dogs undergoing orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery using the ICMPS-SF at 2, 6, and 24 hours post-extubation.

The aims of the present study were to identify empirically supported psychosocial intervention programs for young people with conduct problems and to evaluate the underpinnings, techniques and outcomes of these treatments. We analyzed reviews and meta-analyses published between 1982 and 2016 concerning psychosocial intervention programs for children aged 3 to 12 years with conduct problems. Parent training should be considered the first-line approach to dealing with young children, whereas cognitive-behavioral approaches have a greater effect on older youths.
