Crambe meal (CM) is a potential dietary protein source for ruminant, but its effects in diets for lactating dairy cows remains unknown. We evaluated the effects of inclusion of the low-glucosinolates (GIs) CM (450 mg GIs/kg DM) in partial total mixed ration (pTMR) on performance, efficiency of nutrient utilization, and hepatic function of crossbred Holstein × Zebu and Jersey cows. Eight crossbred Holstein × Zebu cows and four Jersey cows were blocked by breed and days in milk, and randomly assigned in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design, and distributed in one of four isonitrogenous TMRs (130 g CP/kg DM): 0, 45, 90, and 135 g CM/kg DM pTMR.

Chagas disease is one of seventeen neglected tropical diseases according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The histidine-glutamate metabolic pathway is an oxidative route that has shown to be relevant for the bioenergetics in Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent for Chagas disease. Histidine ammonia-lyase participates in the first stage of the histidine catabolism, catalyzing the conversion of l-histidine into urocanate.

Context And Objective: The thickness of the carotid intima-media complex (C-IMC) is considered to be a marker of early atherosclerosis, but visual and echogenic changes to the C-IMC can also be noted. The objective here was to evaluate the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and the echogenicity of the C-IMC and identify those most associated with an "abnormal" C-IMC.

Design And Setting: Cross-sectional study in the ultrasound sector of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Universidade Federal de São Paulo.

Hepatic artery aneurysms are uncommon and account for 20% of visceral aneurysms. Some authors consider endovascular procedures as the first line treatment for most hepatic artery aneurysms, being the conventional surgery reserved for unstable ruptured aneurysms or if the anatomy is unsuitable for endovascular repair. In this report, we describe the endovascular treatment of a giant common hepatic artery aneurysm with an Amplatzer vascular plug.

Background And Aims: Our purpose was to assess the presence of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (alterations in the lipid profile, fasting glycaemia, high arterial pressure values, oxidative stress, increased intima media thickness and impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation) in prepubertal children with elevated homocysteine (Hcy) levels.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 35 children with Hcy levels ≥7.3 μmol/l were matched by gender and age with 29 children with Hcy levels ≤4.
