The endohyphal microbiome: current progress and challenges for scaling down integrative multi-omic microbiome research.

As microbiome research has progressed, it has become clear that most, if not all, eukaryotic organisms are hosts to microbiomes composed of prokaryotes, other eukaryotes, and viruses. Fungi have only recently been considered holobionts with their own microbiomes, as filamentous fungi have been found to harbor bacteria (including cyanobacteria), mycoviruses, other fungi, and whole algal cells within their hyphae. Constituents of this complex endohyphal microbiome have been interrogated using multi-omic approaches.

Background: #OBAnes is the most used hashtag in obstetric anesthesiology. The primary objective of the study was to characterize #OBAnes tweets at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Inadequate hydration is associated with cardiovascular and kidney disease morbidity and all-cause mortality. Compared with White individuals, Black individuals exhibit a higher prevalence of inadequate hydration, which may contribute to racial health disparities. The Influence of Intersectionality on Professional Identity Formation among Underrepresented Pharmacy Students.

Objective: The objective of this study is to explore professional identity formation (PIF) among student pharmacists from underrepresented groups (URGs).

Methods: In this qualitative study, 15 student pharmacists from the University of Georgia and Midwestern University Colleges of Pharmacy were recruited for interviews to explore the influence of intersectionality of race, ethnicity, and gender on PIF. Interview data were analyzed using constructivist grounded theory to identify themes and then further analyzed using Crenshaw's theory of intersectionality, namely structural, political, and representational intersectionality.

Background: Perinatal mood disorders are common yet underdiagnosed and un- or undertreated. Barriers exist to accessing perinatal mental health services, including limited availability, time, and cost. In response to rapid and substantial increases in rates of e-cigarette use among young people, Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) made changes to the regulations governing nicotine vaping products. As part of the regulatory change process, Australians were invited to comment on the proposed regulations, which featured the introduction of a prescription model for nicotine vaping products. To inform strategies to enhance compliance with the tightened regulations, this study examined submissions made by self-reported e-cigarette users to the TGA's public consultation (n = 1405).

Standardized Clinical Annotation of Digital Histopathology Slides at the Point of Diagnosis.

As digital pathology replaces conventional glass slide microscopy as a means of reporting cellular pathology samples, the annotation of digital pathology whole slide images is rapidly becoming part of a pathologist's regular practice. Currently, there is no recognizable organization of these annotations, and as a result, pathologists adopt an arbitrary approach to defining regions of interest, leading to irregularity and inconsistency and limiting the downstream efficient use of this valuable effort. In this study, we propose a Standardized Annotation Reporting Style for digital whole slide images.

The abnormal assembly of TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) in neuronal and glial cells characterizes nearly all cases of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and around half of cases of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). A causal role for TDP-43 assembly in neurodegeneration is evidenced by dominantly inherited missense mutations in TARDBP, the gene encoding TDP-43, that promote assembly and give rise to ALS and FTLD. At least four types (A-D) of FTLD with TDP-43 pathology (FTLD-TDP) are defined by distinct brain distributions of assembled TDP-43 and are associated with different clinical presentations of frontotemporal dementia.

Myosin heavy chain 9 (MYH9) has been identified as a crucial factor in gammaherpesvirus infection. Murine gammaherpesvirus 68 (MHV-68) was used as an appropriate viral model for investigating gammaherpesviruses in vivo and developing antiviral treatments. However, the roles of MYH9 in MHV-68 infection have not been documented.

Synthesis of Cystine-Stabilised Dicarba Conotoxin EpI: Ring-Closing Metathesis of Sidechain Deprotected, Sulfide-Rich Sequences.

Recombinant peptide synthesis allows for large-scale production of peptides with therapeutic potential. However, access to dicarba peptidomimetics via sidechain-deprotected sequences becomes challenging with exposed Lewis basicity presented by amine and sulfur-containing residues. Presented here is a combination of strategies which can be used to deactivate coordinative residues and achieve high-yielding Ru-catalyzed ring-closing metathesis.

Understanding Precatalyst Activation and Speciation in Manganese-Catalyzed C-H Bond Functionalization Reactions.

An investigation into species formed following precatalyst activation in Mn-catalyzed C-H bond functionalization reactions is reported. Time-resolved infrared spectroscopy demonstrates that light-induced CO dissociation from precatalysts [Mn(C^N)(CO)] (C^N = cyclometalated 2-phenylpyridine (), cyclometalated 1,1-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)methanimine ()) in a toluene solution of 2-phenylpyridine () or 1,1-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)methanimine () results in the initial formation of solvent complexes -[Mn(C^N)(CO)(toluene)]. Subsequent solvent substitution on a nanosecond time scale then yields -[Mn(C^N)(CO)(κ-()-)] and -[Mn(C^N)(CO)(κ-()-)], respectively.
