Non-Destructive Testing of adhesion using Surface Acoustic Waves (SAW) is an important issue in industrial and academic domains. Indeed, these waves are sensitive to the quality of adhesion at the interface between the substrate and the layer with a thickness comparable to the acoustic wavelength. Furthermore, their propagation distance allows a large majority of the sample to be tested quickly.

Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are the leading cause of viral foodborne outbreaks worldwide. To date, no available methods can be routinely used to detect infectious HuNoVs in foodstuffs. HuNoVs recognize Histo-Blood Group Antigens (HBGAs) through the binding pocket (BP) of capsid protein VP1, which promotes infection in the host cell.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remains the only potentially curative option for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs) but is severely limited by nonrelapse mortality (NRM), especially in this mostly older population. Comorbidity assessment is crucial to predict NRM and often assessed with the Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation-Specific Comorbidity Index (HCT-CI). Moreover, the impact of age on NRM still remains a matter of debate.

The program on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) is one of the major attempts to tackle climate change mitigation in developing countries. REDD+ seeks to provide result-based incentives to promote emission reductions and increase carbon sinks in forest land while promoting other cobenefits, such as the conservation of biodiversity. We model different scenarios of international REDD+ funds distribution toward potential recipient countries using 2 carbon emission reduction targets (20% and 50% compared to the baseline scenario, i.

Small non-coding microRNAs (miRNAs) have been found to play critical roles in many biological processes by controlling gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. They appear to fine-tune the immune response by targeting key regulatory molecules, and their abnormal expression is associated with immune-mediated inflammatory disorders. Monocytes actively contribute to tissue homeostasis by triggering acute inflammatory reactions as well as the resolution of inflammation and tissue regeneration, in case of injury or pathogen invasion.

Silver ink is the most widely used conductive material for printing electrodes in the fabrication of all-printed ion gel gated transistors because of their high conductivity and low cost. However, electrochemical instability of printed silver electrodes is generally one of the biggest issues, whether it is in air where silver gets oxidized or in a moisture environment where electrochemical migration occurs. Notwithstanding, the electrochemical stability of printed silver electrodes in ion gel medium has not been studied so far.

Hybrid materials that combine diureasil matrices and octahedral molybdenum clusters have been synthesized to design lead-, cadmium- and rare-earth-free emitters for lighting or optoelectronic applications. This association leads to homogeneous and stable hybrids, for which the emission color can be tailored in the entire visible range, including white light; this is thanks to effective energy transfers from the host to the nanocluster.

Article Synopsis
  • Myelofibrosis is a blood disease where people can have mutations in certain genes, and studying these mutations helps doctors decide on treatments.
  • This study looked at 18 patients with myelofibrosis who had a special type of transplant done in four different hospitals.
  • The results showed that patients who had mutations in the MPL gene did really well after the transplant, with very few relapsing into the disease.

Post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is a serious complication associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Although anti-CD-20 therapy is now used as a preemptive strategy for EBV reactivation, PTLD still occurs in some patients. Here we analyzed outcomes and risk factors associated with PTLD transformation in 208 HSCT recipients who were diagnosed with EBV-DNAemia and received at least 1 course of rituximab.

Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. No consensus exists on the best second-line treatment of steroid-refractory acute GVHD (SR-aGVHD). Previously published smaller studies on the use of sirolimus in SR-aGVHD treatment report a response rate of 57 to 86%, with 40% overall survival.

Endothelial cell (EC) activation has been suspected of triggering a group of rare and dismal complications that can occur after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Capillary leak syndrome, engraftment syndrome, transplant-associated microangiopathy, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, and idiopathic pneumonia syndrome are the main nosological entities. Post-HSCT endotheliitis can be triggered by chemotherapy, infections, and calcineurin inhibitors, but allogeneic reactivity is claimed to be the common denominator.

Therapy-related myelodysplastic syndrome (t-MDS) after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is a rare complication with no curative option. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) may be considered for eligible patients and has been understudied in t-MDS. We report 47 consecutive patients with t-MDS after an ASCT who underwent allo-HSCT with a median age of 58 years (range, 30 to 71 years) at transplantation and a median follow-up of 22 months (range, 0.

We report the first method to introduce differential functionalities in the interior pore walls and exterior surface of highly stable thermally hydrocarbonised porous silicon (THCpSi) films. The approach exploits the hydrophobicity of the hydrosilylated THCpSi to, first, selectively functionalise the external surface, and subsequently derivatise the hydrophobic internal pore walls.

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation remains the only curative treatment for sickle cell anemia (SCA), but the place of myeloablative conditioning in the procedure remains to be defined. The aim of the present study was to analyze long-term outcomes, including chimerism, SCA-related events and biological data (hemoglobin, reticulocytes, HbS%), and fertility in a French series of 234 SCA patients under 30 years of age who, from 1988 to 2012, received a matched-sibling-donor stem cell transplantation following standardized myeloablative conditioning [busulfan, cyclophosphamide and rabbit antithymocyte globulin (ATG)]. Since the first report of the series (1988-2004), 151 new consecutive patients with SCA have been similarly transplanted.

Human hepatoma HepaRG cells express most drug metabolizing enzymes and constitute a pertinent in vitro alternative cell system to primary cultures of human hepatocytes in order to determine drug metabolism and evaluate the toxicity of xenobiotics. In this work, we established novel transgenic HepaRG cells transduced with lentiviruses encoding the reporter green fluorescent protein (GFP) transcriptionally regulated by promoter sequences of cytochromes P450 (CYP) 1A1/2, 2B6 and 3A4 genes. Here, we demonstrated that GFP-biosensor transgenes shared similar expression patterns with the corresponding endogenous CYP genes during proliferation and differentiation in HepaRG cells.

Advances in understanding the pathogenesis and molecular landscape of myelofibrosis have occurred over the last decade. Treating physicians now have access to an ever-evolving armamentarium of novel agents to treat patients, although allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation remains the only curative approach. Improvements in donor selection, conditioning regimens, disease monitoring and supportive care have led to augmented survival after transplantation.

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) can progress to secondary acute myeloid leukaemia (sAML). We compared the outcome of 4214 sAML patients who received allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) from an unrelated (62%) or human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-identical sibling donor (38%) according the underlying disease: MDS (n = 3541), CMML (n = 251) or MPN (n = 422). After a median follow up of 46·5 months, the estimated 3-year progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) for the entire group was 36% (34-37%) and 41% (40-43%), respectively.
