Objective: To evaluate whether the use of a labor mirror during the active pushing phase of the second stage of labor is associated with a shorter duration of pushing. Additionally, we examined maternal and neonatal outcomes secondary to mirror use versus non-mirror use.
Design: Retrospective observational cohort study.
This retrospective study evaluated the long-term clinical, functional, and radiographic outcomes of traditional open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) versus limited open reduction with retrograde intramedullary nailing for supracondylar-intercondylar distal femur fractures (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen [AO] 33-C type). Twenty-three fractures were followed in 22 patients for a mean follow-up of 80 months. The rate of subsequent bone-grafting procedures (67% vs 9%) and malunion (42% vs 0%) were significantly higher in ORIF compared to the less invasive retrograde intramedullary nailing treatment.

We also hypothesized that the Short Musculoskeletal Functional Assessment would be more effective than the (Short Form) SF-36 in discriminating the functional recovery of different groups of patients after an ankle fracture. One hundred twenty-seven patients with an isolated ankle fracture were evaluated with the Short Musculoskeletal Functional Assessment and SF-36 questionnaires after operative fracture fixation.

Design: Retrospective clinical study.
Setting: Level 1 university trauma center.
Objective: Ankle fractures are one of the most common operatively treated lower extremity fractures. Several studies indicate that patients often have residual effects after this injury. The purpose of this study is to use the SF-36 questionnaire at two times to assess patients' functional recovery and residual effects after operative stabilization of an unstable ankle fracture.
