The antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance landscape in the United States consists of a data flow that starts in the clinical setting and is maintained by a network of national and state public health laboratories. These organizations are well established, with robust methodologies to test and confirm antimicrobial susceptibility. Still, the bridge that guides the flow of data is often one directional and caught in a constant state of rush hour that can only be refined with improvements to infrastructure and automation in the data flow.

Motivation: Interactions between amino acids are important determinants of the structure, stability and function of proteins. Several tools have been developed for the identification and analysis of such interactions in proteins based on the extensive studies carried out on high-resolution structures from Protein Data Bank (PDB). Although these tools allow users to identify and analyze interactions, analysis can only be performed on one structure at a time.

Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) after pancreas transplantation is a recently identified entity. We describe the incidence of, risk factors for, and outcomes after AMR, and the correlation of C4d immunostaining and donor-specific antibody (DSA) in the diagnosis of AMR. We retrospectively analyzed 162 pancreas transplants in 159 patients who underwent 94 pancreas allograft biopsies between 2006 and 2009.

Objectives: Many medical schools are currently undergoing curriculum reform. When considering the means by which students will be evaluated in a revised curriculum, the need to reduce the prevalences of depression and anxiety associated with academic stress must be weighed against the importance of academic outcomes. Pass/fail evaluation, as compared with tiered grading, is commonly presented as a means to adequately assess student performance while minimising stress and anxiety.

Background: Long-term results in renal transplant recipients who underwent transplantation as children are often buried within the outcomes of adult centers, leaving a void in our knowledge regarding this unique cohort. The authors aim to describe the long-term outcomes of children who experienced renal failure and subsequently underwent transplantation during childhood and who have now reached adulthood, with an emphasis on social and economic rehabilitation.

Methods: Two hundred seventeen children were identified who underwent transplantation between 1967 and 1999.

Objectives: To examine (1) the parenting skills of individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their spouses, (2) the effects of parental TBI on children, and (3) the effects of parental TBI on levels of depression for all family members.

Design: Independent two-tailed t tests and Pearson chi-square analyses were utilized to compare parents with TBI versus parents without TBI, spouses of parents with TBI versus spouses of parents without TBI, and children of parents with TBI versus children of parents without TBI.

Setting: Urban, suburban, and rural New York State.

Acute postoperative thrombosis and late restenosis are well known complications of carotid endarterectomy. Vein or synthetic patches are imperfect solutions leading to occasional infections, false aneurysms and possible rupture. A new technique is described that patches the internal carotid artery with the external carotid artery after complete endarterectomy of both vessels.
