Purpose: To explore the associations between race and retinoblastoma diagnosis in United States children.

Methods: In this analytical nonconcurrent cohort study, we used 1988-2018 data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End-Results (SEER) database. Children ages 0-17 with retinoblastoma were included (n = 758); those with missing data were excluded (n = 11; final cohort: n = 747).

Purpose: To analyze the efficacy of nasolacrimal duct probing conducted in the office for nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of 1,294 patients. Of those, 1,227 patients who underwent office-based nasolacrimal probings of the nasolacrimal duct at a single tertiary care center were included.

Objective: Spontaneous dissection of the vertebral artery is a dangerous and often underdiagnosed cause of posterior circulation and occipital lobe stroke in the young. Vertebral artery dissection should be considered in young patients with a history of minor, nontraumatic changes in head position and visual disturbances.

A 3-year-old boy presented with severe eye pain and nausea after colliding with a date palm tree branch. Examination under anesthesia revealed a self-sealed corneal laceration and traumatic cataract in his left eye. Cultures were taken and the patient received prophylactic subconjunctival, intravitreal, and systemic antibiotics because of the high risk of endophthalmitis.

The authors present the case of a 6-month-old female infant with a known diagnosis of incontinentia pigmenti with a normal examination by indirect ophthalmoscopy. However, fluorescein angiography revealed vascular abnormalities that were not detected by indirect ophthalmoscopy. Follow-up examination revealed progressive vascular changes that again were only detectable by fluorescein angiography.
