A flexible foil undergoing pitching oscillations is studied experimentally in a wind tunnel with different imposed free stream velocities. The chord-based Reynolds number is in the range 1600-4000, such that the dynamics of the system is governed by inertial forces and the wake behind the foil exhibits the reverse Bénard-von Kármán vortex street characteristic of flapping-based propulsion. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements are performed to examine the flow around the foil, whilst the deformation of the foil is also tracked.

Congenital antral webs are a rare but relevant cause of gastric outlet obstruction in infants and children. The condition may lead to feeding refusal, vomiting, and poor growth. Due to the relative rarity of the disease, cases of congenital antral web are frequently misdiagnosed or diagnosed with significant delay as physicians favorably pursue diagnoses of pyloric stenosis and gastric ulcer disease, which are more prevalent.

Objectives: Two previous studies have shown that the addition of nucleotides to single feedings of formula is associated with increased 90-minute postprandial superior mesenteric artery (SMA) blood flow velocity (BFV). To assess the effect of chronic feeding of nucleotide-supplemented formula, we measured pre- and postprandial SMA BFV in term infants fed formula with or without added nucleotides for 4 weeks.
Methods: At 1 week of age, healthy, term infants were randomized to receive formula with added nucleotides (NT+), or formula without added nucleotides (NT-) from age 1 to 5 weeks.
Objectives: Recombinant erythropoietin (rEpo) has been administered to women with postpartum anemia in an attempt to accelerate their increase in hemoglobin concentration and reduce postpartum transfusions. However, it is not clear whether such an approach can be supported by evidence and should be generally recommended.
Study Design And Methods: Medical and scientific literature from January 1990 to December 2002 was searched and studies that reported the administration of rEpo to women with postpartum anemia were evaluated.
Nucleotides (NT) are reported to affect development of the immune and gastrointestinal systems, and they are currently added to most term infant formulas. In the present study, dietary NT effects on superior mesenteric artery blood flow were investigated. Formula-fed preterm infants were studied once with a 20 kcal/oz.
