Emotion recognition has become increasingly important in the field of Deep Learning (DL) and computer vision due to its broad applicability by using human-computer interaction (HCI) in areas such as psychology, healthcare, and entertainment. In this paper, we conduct a systematic review of facial and pose emotion recognition using DL and computer vision, analyzing and evaluating 77 papers from different sources under Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Our review covers several topics, including the scope and purpose of the studies, the methods employed, and the used datasets.

Background: Cytokines induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of COVID-19 and hyperinflammatory responses have been associated with poor clinical outcomes, with progression to severe conditions or long-term subacute complications named as long-COVID-19.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to evaluate a set of antigen-specific inflammatory cytokines in blood from recovered COVID-19 individuals or who suffered a post-acute phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to healthy individuals with no history of COVID-19 exposition or infection. Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), IFN-γ-induced protein 10 (IP-10), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, and IL-17A were quantified by multiplex cytometric bead assay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay after stimulation of whole blood with recombinant Spike protein from SARS-CoV-2.

Background: Ghrelin, a novel growth hormone-releasing peptide, has both anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects on human endothelial cells. We evaluated the protective effects of ghrelin against ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in a murine heterotopic cervical heart transplantation model.
Methods: Donor hearts from C57BL/6J wild-type mice, which were kept in cold saline for 60 minutes, were heterotopically transplanted into C57BL/6J wild-type recipients.
Background: Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation via lateral thoracotomy can offer similar effectiveness to conventional approaches with less perioperative adverse events. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the potential benefits of lateral thoracotomy (LT) for LVAD implantation compared to median sternotomy.
Methods: We searched MEDLINE and Embase databases for studies comparing continuous-flow LVAD implantation using LT with conventional sternotomy.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of ocular axial length on circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness in healthy eyes after correcting for ocular magnification effect.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated 120 eyes from 60 volunteer participants (myopes, emmetropes, and hyperopes). The thickness of the circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer were measured using the spectral optical coherence tomography (OCT)-Cirrus HD-OCT and correlated with ocular axial length.
Continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) recipients exhibit impaired exercise capacity. Long-term continuous blood flow also elevates norepinephrine (NE) and aldosterone (Aldo) levels. However, the relationship between exercise capacity and neurohormonal activation has not been elucidated.
