Background/aims: Physical training is a well-known inducer of positive physiological adaptations. The effects of moderate physical training on the morphometry of splenic lymphoid follicles of endotoxemic rats submitted to a perinatal low-protein (LP) diet were evaluated.

Several cardiorespiratory diseases may complicate the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Pulmonary hypertension is a rare clinical disorder with a poor prognosis. We describe this syndrome in five patients seen at our service who presented infection with the acquired immunodeficiency virus, and we review the literature.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of the sugarcane biopolymer membrane in femoral artery patch angioplasty on dogs.

Methods: Eight dogs were submitted to bilateral femoral artery patch angioplasty with a sugarcane biopolymer membrane patch on one side and e-PTFE patch on the contralateral side. This research was performed at Experimental Surgical Research Laboratory of the Centro de Ciências da Saúde at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco.
