Efforts to control a zoonotic disease such as visceral leishmaniasis (VL) caused by Leishmania infantum can be successful if they rely on comprehensive data on animal infection. In Bahia state, Brazil, human VL is endemic, yet some areas have no epidemiological data on canine L. infantum infection and canine leishmaniasis (CanL) to date.

The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the excretion of nematodes eggs in naturally infected Anglo-Nubians breed goats under conditions of semi-extensive production system and the peri-parturient period. Were used 63 goats, with weight average 35, 05 +/- 6, 54 kg and reproductive cycle from goats. Animals were separated and two groups homogeneous as to the age and nutritional status and two groups (pregnants and nonpregnants).
