Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is an evidence-based treatment for high-risk youth and their families shown to reduce subsequent delinquent activity. This study investigated (1) re-arrest rates of a statewide MST dissemination; and (2) the relation of child, family, and case characteristics to re-arrest rates following receipt of MST. Analyses examined outcomes for 633 youth following referral to MST.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn order to establish the status of metal contamination in surface waters in the coastal ocean off Los Angeles, California, we determined their dissolved and particulate pools and compared them with levels reported in the 1970s prior the implementation of the Clean Water Act. These measurements revealed a significant reduction in particulate toxic metal concentrations in the last 33 years with decreases of ∼100-fold for Pb and ∼400-fold for Cu and Cd. Despite these reductions, the source of particulate metals appears to be primarily anthropogenic as enrichment factors were orders of magnitude above what is considered background crustal levels.

The current paper describes the core components of the EDT model of care within the context of statewide systems of care, including its theoretical foundations, core service components, relation to evidence-based practices, workforce composition and staff training, and data collection and reporting mechanisms. Recommendations are provided for statewide implementation, followed by discussion of model development as an approach to systems reform for the treatment of children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders.

These children are at increased risk of adjustment reactions, anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD, learning difficulties, and familial and social stress. Because of potential risks and vulnerabilities for the development of comorbid psychiatric conditions and the increased risk for individual, familial, and social impairment, a psychiatric consultation to children and families dealing with epilepsy may play an important role in the successful management of this complex disorder.
