Article Synopsis
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is gaining attention as a treatment for neurological and psychological disorders by promoting brain recovery and neuroplasticity.
  • It works through several cellular mechanisms, improving processes like mitochondrial function, neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, and reducing inflammation.
  • Clinical benefits include better cognitive function, recovery from brain injuries, and symptom relief for PTSD and fibromyalgia, suggesting HBOT's potential in neuromodulation deserves more research.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypervirulent bacteria produce more extracellular polysaccharides, which form resilient biofilms that can be disrupted by the peptide bactenecin 7 (bac7 (1-35)).
  • Treatment with bac7 (1-35) causes the biofilm matrix to collapse, leading to the release and subsequent killing of bacterial cells.
  • Research identifies specific regions of bac7 (1-35) that interact with polysaccharides, demonstrating its effectiveness in reducing bacterial levels in a murine skin abscess model.

The National Brain Injury Rescue and Rehabilitation Project was established as a preliminary study to test the safety and practicality of multi-center hyperbaric oxygen administration for the post-concussive symptoms of chronic mild traumatic brain injury as a precursor to a pivotal, independent, multi-center, controlled clinical trial. This report presents the results for 32 subjects who completed a preliminary trial of hyperbaric oxygen several years before the passage of the 21 Century Cures Act. This study anticipated the Act and its reassessment of clinical research.
