Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an increasingly prevalent cause of nosocomial infections. This report describes a 5-month-old male diagnosed with a S maltophilia ventriculoperitoneal shunt infection after a neurosurgical procedure. Intravenous trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and moxifloxacin successfully treated the patient.

Histoplasmosis with central nervous system involvement typically arises in the immunocompromised patient with disseminated fungal disease. Rarely, neurologic histoplasmosis may arise as an isolated syndrome in immunocompetent individuals without evidence of general dissemination. The disease often is diagnostically challenging, and a high index of suspicion is required for diagnosis.

In many applications involving image reconstruction, signal observation time is limited. This emphasizes the requirement for optimal observation selection algorithms. A selection criterion using the trace of a matrix forms the basis of two existing algorithms, the Sequential Backward Selection and Sequential Forward Selection algorithms.
