Preoperative Thrombocytosis is Not Associated with Overall Survival in 309 Glioblastoma Patients.

Background:  In recent years, a correlation of thrombocytosis and a worse prognosis was shown for many solid cancers, including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

Methods:  A retrospective review was performed for all patients with a histologically proven and first-diagnosed GBM between 2005 and 2015 in our department. Clinical and paraclinical parameters were acquired from patient documentation and structured for subsequent data analysis.

The Role of Platelets in Cancer Pathophysiology: Focus on Malignant Glioma.

The link between thrombocytosis and malignancy has been well known for many years and its associations with worse outcomes have been reported mainly for solid tumors. Besides measuring platelet count, it has become popular to assess platelet function in the context of malignant diseases during the last decade. Malignant gliomas differ tremendously from malignancies outside the central nervous system because they virtually never form distant metastases.

Operator differential-algebraic equations with noise arising in fluid dynamics.

We study linear semi-explicit stochastic operator differential algebraic equations (DAEs) for which the constraint equation is given in an explicit form. In particular, this includes the Stokes equations arising in fluid dynamics. We combine a white noise polynomial chaos expansion approach to include stochastic perturbations with deterministic regularization techniques.

High-energy, high-repetition-rate picosecond pulses from a quasi-CW diode-pumped Nd:YAG system.

We report on a high-power quasi-CW pumped Nd:YAG laser system, producing 130 mJ, 64 ps pulses at 1064 nm wavelength with a repetition rate of 300 Hz. Pulses from a Nd:YVO(4) oscillator are first amplified by a regenerative amplifier to the millijoule level and then further amplified in quasi-CW diode-pumped Nd:YAG modules. Pulsed diode pumping enables a high gain at repetition rates of several hundred hertz, while keeping thermal effects manageable.
