Introduction: Nutcracker syndrome (NS) is a rare condition in which the abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery compress the left renal vein (LRV). One treatment option is the placement of an endovascular stent into the LRV, which carries the risk of stent migration.

Case Report: A 30-year-old female with NS status-post LRV stenting 6 months prior presented to the emergency department with suprapubic pain.

Purpose: To characterize the electrophysiological and histopathological features of a retinal degenerative disease in a colony of miniature longhaired dachshunds known to have a form of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).

Methods: Serial electroretinograms were recorded from affected homozygous (n = 36) and heterozygous (n = 15) dogs. Morphologic investigations including immunohistochemistry and lectin histochemistry were performed on selected homozygous animals (n = 15).

We evaluated the microscopical changes that occurred when bone and dental tissue were exposed to such a foreign environment as the ocular surface and anterior chamber in 17 osteo-odonto-keratoprostheses removed from the recipient's eye after 1 to 20 years. Histochemical methods were performed to demonstrate elastic and precursor fibers, while immunohistochemical procedures were used to study the distribution of collagen types I to VI. Islands of heterotopic, newly formed bone were observed in the dentin and the periodontal space, leading to focal dentoalveolar ankylosis.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of IOP on retinal ganglion cell (RGC) apoptosis and correlate the effects with IOP-induced changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) in the retina and optic nerve head (ONH) in glaucomatous rat eyes.

Methods: Thirty-seven Dark Agouti rats had elevated IOP induced in the left eye by hypertonic saline episcleral vein injections. Eyes were examined at 3 months histologically for RGC apoptosis and expression of specific ECM components.

Our understanding of MMP expression during corneal repair has previously relied upon animal models, isolated human biopsy specimens and cell culture studies. The aim of this study was to determine the temporal and spatial expression of matrix metalloproteinases following wounding of cultured human corneal tissue. Human corneas were cultured and cut into six pieces.
