Context: Some patients with classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) survive without glucocorticoid treatment. Increased precursor concentrations in these patients might lead to higher free (biological active) cortisol concentrations by influencing the cortisol-protein binding. In 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21OHD), the most common CAH form, accumulated 21-deoxycortisol (21DF) may further increase glucocorticoid activity.

Due to its concentration in picomolar range and the delicate equilibrium of free and protein-bound T4, accurate measurement is challenging. As a consequence, large inter-method differences in FT4 results exists.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the correlation of serum levels of VEGF and components of the PAS with clinicopathological risk factors and outcome in patients with endometrial cancer (EC).
Methods: Preoperative blood was collected from 173 patients treated for EC between 1999 and 2009.
Strigolactones are a new class of phytohormones synthesized from carotenoids via carlactone. The complex structure of carlactone is not easily deducible from its precursor, a cis-configured β-carotene cleavage product, and is thus formed via a poorly understood series of reactions and molecular rearrangements, all catalyzed by only one enzyme, the carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase 8 (CCD8). Moreover, the reactions leading to carlactone are expected to form a second, yet unidentified product.

Methods: Pre-evacuation blood samples were collected from women with complete hydatidiform mole with uneventful spontaneous regression after molar evacuation (n=32), from women with complete hydatidiform mole who developed persistent trophoblastic disease after evacuation of their mole (n=28) and, as a control group, from women during the first trimester of normal pregnancy (n=22). The serum specimens were subjected to chromatofocusing, and hCG was determined in the fractions collected in the pH range 7.
