Perceived clinical challenges when treating patients from different cultures: A study among psychiatry trainees in Norway.

The growing number of migrant patients in western countries calls for better cross-cultural competence among health providers. As workplaces, hospitals have become increasingly multicultural, and many doctors are themselves of foreign origin, including psychiatrists. The aims of this study were to explore what clinical challenges International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and native-born Norwegian doctors training in psychiatry perceived when treating patients from other cultures, and what factors might be associated with such cross-cultural challenges.

Leadership qualities faculty desire in academic leaders: An international Delphi study.

Background: The global nursing workforce is confounded by shortages of nurses, faculty, and academic nursing leaders. Nursing academic leaders influence faculty recruitment and retention influencing the enrollment pipeline to fill nurse workforce capacity.

Burnout among intensive care nurses, physicians and leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic: A national longitudinal study.

Background: Burnout is frequent among intensive care unit (ICU) healthcare professionals and may result in medical errors and absenteeism. The COVID-19 pandemic caused additional strain during working hours and also affected off-duty life. The aims of this study were to survey burnout levels among ICU healthcare professionals during the first year of COVID-19, describe those who reported burnout, and analyse demographic and work-related factors associated with burnout.

Influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and Their Impact on Chronic Lung Diseases and Fibrosis: Exploring Therapeutic Options.

Respiratory tract infections represent a significant global public health concern, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. RNA viruses, particularly influenza viruses and coronaviruses, significantly contribute to respiratory illnesses, especially in immunosuppressed and elderly individuals. Background: Faculty of color are crucial to the development of a diverse nursing workforce but remain underrepresented in nursing academia.

Purpose: The purpose of this current study is to identify elements of support received and desired by nursing faculty of color for retention and promotion in academia.

Methods: A semi-structured interview was used to collect data from 16 faculty of color from nursing schools across the United States.

Educational supervision in internal medicine residency training - a scoping review.

Background: Although supervision is an important part of residency training, its scope and how it relates to other types of support, such as mentoring, precepting and feedback, remain unclear. While clinical supervision consists of ongoing instructions and feedback in the workplace setting, educational supervision is a formalized component of postgraduate medical educational and supports the process that facilitates a trainee's progression throughout their training. Since medical specialties have different supervisory traditions, this study focuses on educational supervision in internal medicine.

Improved Shear Strength Equation for Reinforced Concrete Columns Retrofitted with Hybrid Concrete Jackets.

The adequacy of retrofitting with concrete jacketing is influenced by the bonding between the old section and jacketing section. In this study, five specimens were fabricated, and cyclic loading tests were performed to investigate the integration behavior of the hybrid concrete jacketing method under combined loads. The experimental results showed that the strength of the proposed retrofitting method increased approximately three times compared to the old column, and bonding capacity was also improved.

Understanding peer support: a qualitative interview study of doctors one year after seeking support.

Background: Doctors' health is of importance for the quality and development of health care and to doctors themselves. As doctors are hesitant to seek medical treatment, peer support services, with an alleged lower threshold for seeking help, is provided in many countries. Peer support services may be the first place to which doctors turn when they search for support and advice relating to their own health and private or professional well-being.

An Experimental Study on Torsional Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Columns Retrofitted with Hybrid Concrete Jackets.

The concrete jacketing method for retrofitting old reinforced concrete (RC) columns should secure confinement and seismic performance under torsion as well as unidirectional later loads. In a previous study, a hybrid concrete jacketing method was proposed using steel wire mesh (SWM), steel grid reinforcement (SGR), which can replace reinforcement of existing concrete jacketing method, and using steel fiber non-shrinkage mortar (SFNM). These details can simplify the retrofitting process of the existing concrete jacketing method, and seismic performance was evaluated by conducting a cyclic loading test under unidirectional loading.

Changes in Selected Organic and Inorganic Compounds in the Hydrothermal Carbonization Process Liquid While in Storage.

Although many studies have investigated the hydrothermal transformation of feedstock biomass, little is known about the stability of the compounds present in the process liquid after the carbonization process is completed. The physicochemical characteristics of hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) liquid products may change over storage time, diminishing the amount of desired products or producing unwanted contaminants. These changes may restrict the use of HTC liquid products.

Exploring alternative forms of scholarship for nurse educators' success.

Background: Teaching-intensive universities require faculty to have increased teaching workloads. Nursing faculty have additional burdens that faculty members in other disciplines and departments do not experience, making it difficult to produce scholarship as it has been traditionally defined in research-intensive universities. Teaching-intensive universities should begin to rethink nursing faculty expectations for meeting their universities' missions of scholarship, especially those required for tenure.

Physician participation in quality improvement work- interest and opportunity: a cross-sectional survey.

Background: Lack of physician involvement in quality improvement threatens the success and sustainability of quality improvement measures. It is therefore important to assess physicians´ interests and opportunities to be involved in quality improvement and their experiences of such participation, both in hospital and general practice.

Methods: A cross-sectional postal survey was conducted on a representative sample of physicians in different job positions in Norway in 2019.

Fast co-evolution of anti-silencing systems shapes the invasiveness of Mu-like DNA transposons in eudicots.

Transposable elements (TEs) constitute a major threat to genome stability and are therefore typically silenced by epigenetic mechanisms. In response, some TEs have evolved counteracting systems to suppress epigenetic silencing. In the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, two such anti-silencing systems have been identified and found to be mediated by the VANC DNA-binding proteins encoded by VANDAL transposons.

Antegrade Intramedullary Fixation for Clavicular Shaft Fracture: A Technical Trick.

The standard open reduction and internal fixation technique with a plate and screws for a simple mid shaft clavicular fracture necessitates a relatively large incision and can also lead to variable amount of keloid scar formation. Historically, other techniques of more minimally invasive retrograde intramedullary fixation with the entry point posterolaterally on the shoulder have shown their own disadvantages and complications. We present a surgical technique of antegrade intramedullary fixation for mid shaft clavicular fractures and an illustrative case series.
