Background: Endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) is required to make a definite diagnosis of lymphocytic myocarditis (LM), to identify its etiology, and to classify LM into different phases.
Objectives: This study aims to characterize and compare clinical and electrophysiological characteristics of different biopsy-proven LM phases, namely acute myocarditis (AM), chronic active myocarditis (CAM), and healed myocarditis (HM).
Methods: All patients with a diagnosis of LM at 3 Italian referral centers were prospectively enrolled.
Background: Predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with undefined left ventricular arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ULVACM) have not been described.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of genetic testing and histology in a cohort of ULVACM patients.
Methods: We identified 313 patients with ULVACM defined by new-onset ventricular arrhythmia (VA), nonischemic pattern of late gadolinium enhancement limited to the left ventricle (LV), and no severe dilated cardiomyopathy (LV ejection fraction ≥40%) from a retrospective multicenter registry.
Background: Myocarditis and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are rare conditions, but may coexist. Myocarditis in IBD may be infective, immune-mediated, or due to mesalamine toxicity. A gap of knowledge exists on the clinical features of patients that present myocarditis in association with IBD, especially for endomyocardial biopsy-proven cases.

Recently, many new techniques have been introduced to treat large full-thickness macular holes (FTMH); although the indications are not clear. An updated surgical classification is needed to help surgical decision-making.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the in vitro antifungal efficacy of essential oil (CC-EO) pure or formulated in polycaprolactone (PCL) nanoparticles against ten clinical strains of .
Methods: nanoparticles of PCL were produced using CC-EO (nano-CC-EO) and cinnamaldehyde (CIN) through the nanoprecipitation method.
To evaluate usability of and satisfaction with OrCam MyEye, a finger-size wearable assistive technology device for visually impaired during real-world tasks. This prospective multicenter study was conducted on visually impaired people recruited from 5 vision rehabilitation centers. Patients performed real-world tasks such as near and distance reading, money handling, colour identification and face recognition in 2 different scenarios: without using any low vision aid and with OrCam.

Many RPE65 missense mutations lack a clear pathogenicity classification or are labelled as VUS. In this context, we recently developed a protocol based on µs-long molecular dynamics simulations to study the potential pathogenic effect of RPE65 missense mutations.

The aim of this study is to further investigate the placental SARS-CoV-2 infection and the potential effect on protein expression (ACE2, CD147, HLA-G and CD56).
Methods: The study was on three subgroups: i) 18 subjects positive for SARS-CoV-2 swab at delivery; ii) 9 subjects that had a positive SARS-CoV-2 swab during pregnancy but resulted negative at delivery; iii) 11 control subjects with physiological pregnancy and with no previous or concomitant SARS-CoV-2 swab positivity.
We present a case of a 61-year-old woman with an atypical non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NA-AION) as a unique manifestation of COVID-19. Furthermore, the patient worsened after Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine administration. Our findings suggest that NA-AION could result from microangiopathic/thrombotic events that may occur during SARS-CoV-2 infection and/or vaccination against COVID-19.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of sixty patients with POAG and cataract who underwent elective cataract extraction. All patients underwent routine ophthalmic examinations, including automatic visual field examination, anterior chamber configuration, specular microscopy, and arterial blood pressure measurement prior to surgery, and 24 h and 30 days postoperatively.
Macular neovascularization (MNV) and geographic atrophy can complicate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and lead to severe visual acuity reduction. Despite the medical treatments available, with a defect in the retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) there is no possibility of restoring acceptable visual acuity. We evaluated postoperative outcomes in patients affected by advanced AMD who underwent subretinal implant of the human amniotic membrane (hAM) as a source of pluripotent stem cells.

In oncology, tumour segmentation constitutes a crucial step of the radiomic workflow. Manual segmentation is time-consuming and prone to inter-observer variability.

This prospective, non-randomized study analyzed the data of 100 cataract surgeries, 66 using FLACS and 34 with standard PCS. The time of surgical phases was recorded by a digital chronometer; an additional parameter recorded was the CDE of the phacoemulsification phase.

Methods: In this retrospective multicentric study we compared the preoperative expected target with the postoperative RE of patients undergoing combined phaco-vitrectomy due to vitreomacular traction, macular pucker, full thickness macular hole or lamellar macular hole. A multinomial logistic regression was performed to compare the postoperative REs and the differences between expected and postoperative REs among the SRK-T, Olsen's and Holladay-2 formulas.
Purpose: To report the case of a patient who presented with a peripapillary retinal detachment caused by pathological myopia.
Observations: A 73-year-old female with a clinical history of high myopia was admitted to our ophthalmic department complaining of vision loss in her right eye. Her best-corrected visual acuity was 20/25 in the right eye and 20/400 in the left eye.
The chiral resolving ability of the commercially available amylose (3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate)-based chiral stationary phase (CSP) toward four chiral probes representative of four kinds of stereogenicity (central, axial, helical, and planar) was investigated. Besides chirality, the evident structural feature of selectands is an extremely limited conformational freedom. The chiral rigid analytes were analyzed by using pure short alcohols as mobile phases at different column temperatures.

We aimed to develop MRI-based radio-genomic models able to preoperatively assess lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI) and discriminate between low- and high-risk EC according to the ESMO-ESGO-ESTRO 2020 guidelines, which include molecular risk classification proposed by "ProMisE". This is a retrospective, multicentric study that included 64 women with EC who underwent 3T-MRI before a hysterectomy.

In order to identify possible predictors of symptomatic response, the purpose of this study is to perform a pooled analysis of previous trials. We analyzed the impact on symptomatic response of the following parameters: tumor site, histological type, performance status (ECOG), dominant symptom, and RT dose using the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test.

The inactivation of the gene in mice expressing the constitutively active, oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinase FLT3 ITD aggravated known features of leukaemogenesis, revealing PTPRJ's antagonistic role. FLT3 ITD mutations resulting in constitutively kinase activity and cell transformation frequently occur in patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
