From November 1988 to December 1991, 45 infertile patients underwent salpingo-ovariolysis and/or salpingoneostomy during laparotomy or laparoscopy. Findings at surgery were scored according to the AFS classification. Salpingoscopy was performed to evaluate the status of the ampullary mucosa.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are a class of excitatory amino acid receptors in the brain which are important for the induction of kindling and kindling-like phenomena. Post hoc sodium nitroprusside-induced ADP ribosylation of some proteins (particularly a p43 and a p39 protein) in homogenates from stimulated hippocampus was reduced at preconvulsive stage II and stage V (tonic-clonic seizures) of dentate gyrus kindling compared with controls. This effect, which probably reflects enhanced endogenous ADP ribosylation, depends on the progressive activation of the NMDA receptors and on the generation of nitric oxide (NO).

Moreover, the amino acid sequences of the N-terminal segments of the alpha- and beta-chains have been determined. The present results indicate that chamois and steinbock Hbs display a low affinity for O2, which appears to be modulated in vivo by Cl- ions rather than 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransition from glucose limitation to glucose excess in Saccharomyces cerevisiae leads to a fast change from complete to partial oxidative metabolism. To determine rapid changes of in vivo concentrations of yeast metabolites, occurring in the range of seconds after a glucose injection, a fast sampling technique was developed. A harvesting device with negligible dead space and highly efficient inactivation and extraction steps was applied to analyze the behavior of the physiological concentrations of adenine nucleotides as the dynamic response to fast changing glucose concentrations.

The primary structure of myoglobin from the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) has been determined; the protein consists of 153 amino acid residues. The ferric loggerhead sea turtle myoglobin has been crystallized in a form suitable for X-ray structural investigations. The crystals were grown at pH 8.

Autologous LAK cells were reinfused during the second course. Lung function was monitored before and after each rIL-2 administration.

In the present communication YS3025 binding studies are extended to bovine beta-trypsin and porcine pancreatic elastase, by means of crystallographic difference Fourier techniques. For all the enzymes considered, the thiopencarbonyl moiety of YS3025 is located at the entrance of the inhibited proteinase primary specificity pocket (S1), covalently linked to the catalytic Ser195 OG atom, and forming an acyl-enzyme complex.

TIL were serially analyzed for their expansion, phenotype and cytotoxic activity against autologous and allogenic tumor cells. A preferential lysis of autologous melanoma cells was obtained in long-term cultures of 7/13 cases (54%), while the remaining ones showed a major-histocompatibility-complex-unrestricted, lymphokine-activated-killer(LAK)-like activity at the time of in vivo injection.

The sensitivity of the radioimmunoassay was optimized to detect < 1 fmol/ml. The basal concentration of SLI in 20-min dialysate fractions (5 microliters/min) collected 24 h after probe implantation was stable over at least 200 min.

Isoamyl acetate was synthesized by lipase-catalyzed transesterification of ethyl acetate in n-hexane. The selectivity and rates of ester formation decreased when water content of the immobilized enzyme exceeded 3% (w/w). Experimental observations clearly indicate that the substrates as well as the product (ethanol) act as dead-end inhibitors.

We examined the effects of these infusions on discrete cellular populations. Therefore, it is able to identify and evaluate intraluminal lesions not detected by hysterosalpingography or laparoscopy. The endoscopic evaluation of the tubal mucosa can predict the possibility of an intrauterine pregnancy or laparoscopic tubal surgery, permitting the selection of patients with the most favourable prognosis.
