Primary cutaneous carcinosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor composed of both an epithelial and mesenchymal cell population. We present a case of a man, aged 56 years, found to have a 26-mm exophytic lesion on the vertex scalp identified to contain a distinct population of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) as well as another population of spindled cells representing a poorly differentiated sarcomatous component. Five years after the removal of the primary lesion, the patient presented with metastatic BCC to the right scalp, right cervical nodes, lung, and rib.

During infertility treatment with intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a morphologically normal motile spermatozoon is injected into a mature egg, when possible. However, sperm motility and morphology per se do not reflect the sperm molecular composition.

The current study is analysis of so far largest sample (1071) of hemodynamically stable blunt liver, spleen, kidney and pancreatic trauma patients managed non operatively irrespective of severity of a single /multiple solid organ injury or other associated injuries with high rate of success.
Methods: Experience of 1071 blunt abdominal trauma patients treated by NOM at a tertiary care National Trauma Centre in Oman (from Jan 2001 to Dec 2011) was reviewed, analyzed to determine the indications, methods and results of NOM.
Faced with increasing attendance and tardiness problems in an undergraduate student nursing clinical setting, the authors implemented a "point system" policy to objectively evaluate student performance. The authors discuss the policy, based on area hospital attendance point systems, and its impact.

Vertebral hemangioma is a relatively frequent but rarely symptomatic tumor. Physiologic changes during pregnancy may lead to spinal cord compression due to tumor expansion. We report a case of vertebral hemangioma during pregnancy: a 28-year-old woman, third trimester, third gestation, consulted for paraplegia of rapid onset; Magnetic resonance imaging showed a lesion of the 9th thoracic vertebra; a cesarean section was done, followed by laminectomy with partial symptom relief; pathology showed a benign vertebral hemangioma and treatment was completed with radiotherapy.

Objective: To test the hypothesis that second-trimester placental growth is a major determinant of size at birth in healthy, active women.
Methods: Three serial measurements of fetal morphometry and placental volume were obtained between the 14th and 26th weeks of an accurately dated singleton pregnancy in 40 subjects.
Results: Second-trimester placental volumes were variable, increasing from (mean +/- standard deviation) 130 +/- 35 to 248 +/- 67 and to 375 +/- 92 cm3 at 16, 20, and 24 weeks, with an average growth rate of 31 +/- 8 cm3/weeks.
The authors report their experience with laparoscopy for myomectomy and analyze their results (mean size of myomas: 7.5 cm, route of extraction: vaginal 56%). This is a recent, promising technique which requires further evaluation.

Study Design: Serial measurements of placental volume were obtained between the fourteenth and twenty-sixth gestational week in 18 subjects who exercised regularly throughout the midtrimester and in 16 matched controls with an ultrasonographic system equipped with a fixed-base, articulated-arm, 3.5 MHz B-mode transducer.
Physician practices as well as hospital and other health care institutions must work diligently to maintain viability given the economic severity of today's health care arena. Operational reviews, system reviews, and periodic internal audits all contribute to helping a practice be as efficient and effective as possible. Practices must make a conscious and continual effort to work toward meeting their established objectives.
