Association Between Neighborhood Deprivation and Number of Ophthalmology Providers.

Purpose: The Area Deprivation Index (ADI) is a quantitative measurement of neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage used to identify high-risk communities. The distribution of physicians with respect to ADI can indicate decreased healthcare access in deprived neighborhoods. This study applies ADI to the distribution of ophthalmologists and demonstrates how practice patterns in the national Medicare Part D program may vary with ADI.

Impact of Gap Years Following Medical School Graduation on Resident Research Productivity in Ophthalmology.

 Gap years following medical school graduation have become more common, but research into their tangible career benefit is lacking. Examining the impact of gap years on resident scholarly productivity in ophthalmology may provide insight generalizable to all specialties.  To evaluate whether a gap year following medical school graduation significantly predicts scholarly productivity during ophthalmology residency.
