- An aortic dissection (AoD) is a serious medical emergency with high mortality rates, and a new point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) protocol was tested to help diagnose it quickly in unstable patients.
- The study involved 1,314 ultrasound exams on patients suspected of having AoD, using specific sonographic signs to make a diagnosis.
- The results showed that the SPEED protocol had a high sensitivity (93.2%) and specificity (90.9%) for identifying AoD, making it an effective tool for emergency settings.
