Understanding COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance among Latin American Health Workers: Implications for Designing Interventions.

Health workers (HWs) have a key role in promoting vaccine acceptance. This study draws on the Behavioral and Social Drivers of Vaccination (BeSD) model and our team's investigation of vaccine hesitancy in a sample of 1197 HWs across 14 Caribbean countries in 2021. We conducted a cross-sectional Internet survey of 6718 HWs across 16 countries in Latin America in spring 2022, after the COVID-19 vaccine had recently become widely available in the region.

A Social Ecological Approach to Latino Immigrant Trauma and Intervention: An Integrative Review.

This paper presents an application that can be taken when conducting mental health intervention within the Latino immigrant population. Using a social ecological lens, it provides an overview of experiences and factors to detail the characteristics, trauma, and resilience factors present within this population. Utilizing Ungar's framework on resilience, that decenters the individual from experiences of trauma to position them alongside their social network and resources, it proposes an application for future intervention and research efforts.

Pathogenesis of E-Cigarette Vaping Product Use-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI).

EVALI is an acute inflammatory disease in response to lung cell injury induced by electronic cigarettes and vaping devices (EV) frequently containing Vitamin E Acetate or tetrahydrocannabinol additives, in the context of risk factors such as microbial exposure. EVALI resembles a respiratory viral illness that may progress to acute respiratory failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) but can also affect extra pulmonary organs. Manifestations may be severe, leading to death or long-term morbidity and current treatments are largely supportive.

The First Latin American Consensus on Superficial and Perforating Venous Mapping.

With the aim of obtaining a map which is useful as a diagnostic tool and therapeutical orientation, complementing the written report of duplex ultrasound venous study, Latin-American Scientific Societies of Phlebology, Vascular Surgery and Vascular Imaging were invited to participate, through their regional representatives, to the First Consensus of Superficial and Perforating Venous Mapping. A consensus process using a modified Delphi method was carried out. An International Working Group was formed, which developed a Prototype of the Venous Mapping that worked as a starting point for consensus, and was presented in a first virtual meeting of 54 experts (societies' representatives) when the methodology was explained.

Case report: Non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia in the setting of sildenafil use.

Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a condition that results from a sudden decline in blood flow through the mesenteric vessels that has a high morbidity and mortality. Non-occlusive AMI often presents in critically ill, hypotensive patients that suffer from decreased organ perfusion. Here we describe a case of non-occlusive acute mesenteric ischemia in the setting of transient hypotension precipitated by sildenafil.

Setting up regional diagnostic reference levels for pediatric interventional cardiology in Latin America and the Caribbean countries: preliminary results and identified challenges.

The goal of the present study was to propose a set of preliminary regional diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for pediatric interventional cardiology (IC) procedures in Latin America and the Caribbean countries, classified by age and weight groups. The study was conducted in the framework of the Optimization of Protection in Pediatric Interventional Radiology in Latin America and the Caribbean program coordinated by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The first step of the program was focused on pediatric IC.

Anthropometric predictors for cardiovascular risk in Indigenous women in Mexico: an inexpensive alternative in rural clinical practice.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death in Mexico. Although the use of anthropometric indicators facilitates the diagnosis of cardiovascular risk (CVR), their use is limited in rural communities with limited resources. This article evaluated and demonstrated predictive capacity of three anthropometric indexes for CVR in Indigenous women in Mexico from Matlatzinca ethnic group.

Implementation of programming for survivors of violence-related trauma at a level 1 trauma center.

Background: Prior investigation of violence intervention programs has been limited. This study will describe resources offered by Victims of Crime Advocacy and Recovery Program (VOCARP), their utilization, and effect on recidivism.

Methods: VOCARP was established in 2017 at our center, and all patients who engaged with programming (n=1019) were prospectively recorded.

Objectives: Clinical competence is an essential component of the practice of emergency medicine (EM), but a well-rounded physician must gain appreciation and understanding of the many nonclinical aspects of EM, including emergency department (ED) throughput, operational metrics, financial principles, policies and procedures, interaction with nursing, and patient experience. While most residency programs include an administrative component, the majority are during the final year of training. We designed and piloted the Resident Exposure To Nursing and Administration (RETNA) curriculum for postgraduate year one (PGY-1) residents during orientation.
