A machine learning approach to analyse ozone concentration in metropolitan area of Lima, Peru.

The main objective of this study is to model the concentration of ozone in the winter season on air quality through machine learning algorithms, detecting its impact on population health. The study area involves four monitoring stations: Ate, San Borja, Santa Anita and Campo de Marte, all located in Metropolitan Lima during the years 2017, 2018 and 2019. Exploratory, correlational and predictive approaches are presented.

Heterogeneity in stone culture protocols and endourologist practice patterns: a multi-institutional survey.

Kidney stone cultures can be beneficial in identifying bacteria not detected in urine, yet how stone cultures are performed among endourologists, under what conditions, and by what laboratory methods remain largely unknown. Stone cultures are not addressed by current clinical guidelines. A comprehensive REDCap electronic survey sought responses from directed (n = 20) and listserv elicited (n = 108) endourologists specializing in kidney stone disease.

Clinical Implications and Treatment Strategies for ESR1 Fusions in Hormone Receptor-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer: A Case Series.

In hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer (HR+ MBC), endocrine resistance is commonly due to genetic alterations of ESR1, the gene encoding estrogen receptor alpha (ERα). While ESR1 point mutations (ESR1-MUT) cause acquired resistance to aromatase inhibition (AI) through constitutive activation, far less is known about the molecular functions and clinical consequences of ESR1 fusions (ESR1-FUS). This case series discusses 4 patients with HR+ MBC with ESR1-FUS in the context of the existing ESR1-FUS literature.

Characterization of Inflammatory Breast Cancer in Hispanic Women from Puerto Rico.

: Breast cancer (BC) is the most diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among women in Puerto Rico (PR). Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is considered the most aggressive BC subtype. This study characterized the IBC population of Hispanic women living in Puerto Rico and aimed to estimate the IBC survival rate using data from the Puerto Rico Central Cancer Registry (PRCCR).

Influence of daily temperature maximums on the development and short-distance movement of the Asian citrus psyllid.

Temperature is a key factor in insect biology and ecology. Climate change is driving insect exposure to temperature extremes and understanding the effect of extreme temperatures on the biology of invasive agricultural pests will be key to predicting the effect of temperature increases. Here, we simulated diurnal cycles with different lengths of exposure times to maximum temperatures experienced in summer in different locations of California on the survivorship and development of the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) (Diaphorina citri Kuwayama).

Impact of American Society of Anesthesiologists score on postoperative holmium enucleation of the prostate outcomes and complications.

Introductions: The American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status Classification System (ASA) is a validated risk stratification method for patients undergoing surgery. There is an increased prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia and comorbidities in our aging population. The role of ASA related to postoperative complications in patients undergoing holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) has not been described.

Gestationally dependent immune organization at the maternal-fetal interface.

The immune system and placenta have a dynamic relationship across gestation to accommodate fetal growth and development. High-resolution characterization of this maternal-fetal interface is necessary to better understand the immunology of pregnancy and its complications. We developed a single-cell framework to simultaneously immuno-phenotype circulating, endovascular, and tissue-resident cells at the maternal-fetal interface throughout gestation, discriminating maternal and fetal contributions.

The impact of Hurricane Maria on individuals living with non-communicable disease in Puerto Rico: the experience of 10 communities.

Background: Coinciding with the rising non-communicable disease (NCD) prevalence worldwide is the increasing frequency and severity of natural hazards. Protecting populations with NCDs against natural hazards is ever more pressing given their increased risk of morbidity and mortality in disaster contexts. This investigation examined Hurricane Maria's impacts across ten lower SES municipalities in Puerto Rico with varying community characteristics and hurricane impacts to understand experiences of supporting individuals with NCD management in the six-month period following the hurricane.

Utilizing SEM-RFC to predict factors affecting online shopping cart abandonment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Online shopping has accelerated during to the pandemic and an increase in online shopping cart abandonment (SCA) was also evident. The growth of online shopping is contributed by the rising middle class, high consumer spending, millennials, and a tech-savvy population which is valuable to the growth of e-commerce. This study aimed to predict the factors that affect SCA during the COVID-19 Pandemic utilizing the SEM-RFC hybrid.

Receipt of Recommended Follow-up Care After a Positive Lung Cancer Screening Examination.

Importance: Maximizing benefits of lung cancer screening requires timely follow-up after a positive screening test. The American College of Radiology (ACR) Lung CT Screening Reporting and Data System (Lung-RADS) recommends testing and follow-up timing based on the screening result.

Objective: To determine rates of and factors associated with recommended follow-up after a positive lung cancer screening examination by Lung-RADS category.

One of these things is not like the other: Predictors of core and capital mentoring in adolescence.

Informal mentoring has many demonstrated impacts on young people, including increased educational attainment, economic mobility, and both physical and mental health. Emerging work on a typology within informal mentoring suggests that "core" mentors are often extended family members and provide emotional support, while "capital" mentors are connected to formal institutions and provide valued advice and social capital. The present paper contributes to this emerging body of work by examining which qualities of a young person and their environment lead to core versus capital mentoring using a nationally representative sample of youth (N = 4226).

BMS-986012, an Anti-Fucosyl-GM1 Monoclonal Antibody as Monotherapy or in Combination With Nivolumab in Relapsed/Refractory SCLC: Results From a First-in-Human Phase 1/2 Study.

Introduction: Fucosyl-GM1 is a monosialoganglioside with limited expression in healthy tissues and high expression on SCLC cells. BMS-986012 is a nonfucosylated, first-in-class, fully human immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody that binds to fucosyl-GM1.

Methods: CA001-030 is a phase 1/2, first-in-human study of BMS-986012 as monotherapy or in combination with nivolumab for adults with relapsed or refractory SCLC.

Insulin resistance promotes extracellular BCAA accumulation without altering LAT1 content, independent of prior BCAA treatment in a myotube model of skeletal muscle.

Purpose: Type 2 diabetes is characterized by reduced insulin sensitivity which correlates with increased circulating BCAA. These experiments investigated the effects of insulin resistance with and without excess BCAA on myotube insulin sensitivity and L-type amino acid transporter-1 (LAT1).

Methods: C2C12 myotubes were treated with or without excess BCAA for 1 or 6 days, both with and without insulin resistance.

Evaluation of the Cost-Effectiveness of Surgical Treatment Options for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

Objective: To compare the cost-effectiveness of surgical interventions for BPH.

Methods: Using a Markov model, a cost-utility analysis was performed comparing HoLEP, B-TURP, WVTT, and PUL for prostate size <80cc (index patient 1) and HoLEP and SP for prostate size >80cc (index patient 2). Model probabilities and utility values were drawn from the literature.

An unprecedented function for a tungsten-containing oxidoreductase.

Five tungstopterin-containing oxidoreductases were characterized from the hyperthermophile Pyrococcus furiosus. Each enzyme catalyzes the reversible conversion of one or more aldehydes to the corresponding carboxylic acid, but they have different specificities. The physiological functions of only two of these enzymes are known: one, termed GAPOR, is a glycolytic enzyme that oxidizes glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, while the other, termed AOR, oxidizes multiple aldehydes generated during peptide fermentation.

Since the guideline was published, the American Medical Association has added Current Procedural Terminology category I codes for basivertebral nerve ablation: 64628 and 64629. Additionally, the has recognized a need for greater specificity in differentiating various types of low back pain and has designatedthe code M54.

Long-term outcomes of percutaneous versus surgical revascularization in patients with diabetes and left main coronary artery disease: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Background: The efficacy and safety of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) relative to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with diabetes and unprotected left main coronary artery disease (LMCAD) are not well established.

Objectives: To perform a meta-analysis evaluating the long-term outcomes after PCI with drug-eluting stents (DES), as compared with CABG, in patients with diabetes and unprotected LMCAD.

Methods: MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Embase were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that reported outcomes after PCI with DES versus CABG in unprotected LMCAD among patients with diabetes.

Characteristics of Persons Screened for Lung Cancer in the United States : A Cohort Study.

Background: Lung cancer screening (LCS) with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) was recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) in 2013, making approximately 8 million Americans eligible for screening.

Agent-based modeling predicts RAC1 is critical for ovarian cancer metastasis.

Experimental and computational studies pinpoint rate-limiting step(s) in metastasis governed by Rac1. Using ovarian cancer cell and animal models, Rac1 expression was manipulated, and quantitative measurements of cell-cell and cell-substrate adhesion, cell invasion, mesothelial clearance, and peritoneal tumor growth discriminated the tumor behaviors most highly influenced by Rac1. The experimental data were used to parameterize an agent-based computational model simulating peritoneal niche colonization, intravasation, and hematogenous metastasis to distant organs.

Cognitive and contextual factors modulating grammar learning at older ages.

Second language learning has been shown more difficult for older than younger adults, however, the research trying to identify the sources of difficulty and possible modulating factors is scarce. Extrinsic (learning condition and complexity) and intrinsic factors (executive control) have been related to L2-grammar learning in younger adults. In the present study, we aim to assess whether extrinsic and intrinsic factors are also modulating grammar learning in older adults.
