Rationale & Objective: The preferred vascular access for hemodialysis recipients is an arteriovenous fistula in the nondominant arm. Prior placement of a peripheral intravenous (PIV) catheter can lead to vascular injury and limit options for arteriovenous fistula creation, a particular problem for children, who may need hemodialysis for their entire lifetime. We instituted an initiative to increase the frequency of PIV catheter placement in the dominant arm for hospitalized pediatric patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Aims: Intrathyroidal ectopic thymus (ITET) is a rare cause of paediatric thyroid nodules. Purpose: Our objective was to increase ultrasound reliability for diagnosing appendicitis in an academic children's hospital emergency department (ED) through a multidisciplinary quality improvement initiative.

Methods: A retrospective review of ultrasound use in patients diagnosed with appendicitis in our ED from 1/1/2011 to 6/30/2014 established a baseline cohort. From 8/1/2014 to 7/31/2015 a diagnostic algorithm that prioritized ultrasound over CT was used in our ED, and a standardized template was implemented for the reporting of appendicitis-related ultrasound findings by our radiologists.

Objective: To examine the prevalence of tracheobronchomalacia diagnosed by tracheobronchography in ventilator-dependent infants, and describe the demographic, clinical and dynamic airway characteristics of those infants with tracheobronchomalacia.

Cranial fasciitis is a mass-forming lesion of myofibroblastic proliferation of the skull and overlying soft tissue and occurs most frequently in pediatric patients. Cranial fasciitis has the same histological features as nodular fasciitis, which appears in the subcutaneous tissue in other parts of the body. Cranial fasciitis can involve the outer table of the skull, and it occasionally extends through the skull to form a mass involving both soft tissue and the epidural space.
