Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the antibacterial properties of a specific shallot cultivar from Palu Valley, Indonesia, against the pathogen that causes typhoid fever, due to shallots' low toxicity and affordability.
  • - Using techniques like thin-layer chromatography (TLC-bioautography) and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), researchers identified active compounds in shallot extracts and studied their interactions at the molecular level.
  • - Results show significant antibacterial activity, with a maximum inhibition zone of 31.5 mm, and identified key compounds such as dodecanoic acid, suggesting that Palu Valley shallot extract has strong therapeutic potential against typhoid fever.

Background And Objectives: Earthworms coexist with various pathogenic microorganisms; thus, their immunity mechanisms have developed through a long process of adaptation, including through endogenous bacterial symbionts. This study aims to identify earthworm endosymbiont bacteria compounds and their antibacterial activity through an approach supported by an approach.

Materials And Methods: This research was conducted using the inhibition test through agar diffusion and the test using molecular docking applications, namely, PyRx and Way2Drugs Prediction of Activity Spectra for Substances (PASS).
