Objectives: This study examines the association between quality Postnatal Care (PNC) considering timing and providers' type on neonatal mortality. The aim extends to account for regional disparities in service delivery and mortality including high and non-high focus states.
Methods: Ever-married women aged 15-49 years (1,87,702) who had delivered at least one child in five years preceding the survey date surveyed in National Family Health Survey (2015-16) were included in the study.
Sporadic evidence is available on the association of consuming multiple substances with the risk of hypertension among adults in India where there is a substantial rise in cases. This study assesses the mutually exclusive and mixed consumption patterns of alcohol, tobacco smoking and smokeless tobacco use and their association with hypertension among the adult population in India. Nationally representative samples of men and women drawn from the National Family and Health Survey (2015-2016) were analyzed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The main objective is to understand the practices regarding use of uterotonics during active labour and for prevention of postpartum haemorrhage and the barriers for its optimal and appropriate use at different levels of health facilities in five states of India.
Study Design: Mixed methods approach comprising of cross-sectional observational study of existing practices of uterotonics use during labour and early postpartum period for 1479 vaginal deliveries at 56 facilities. Quantitative data was collected using pre-tested proformas filled by on-site observers and qualitative data was collected by in-depth interviews of 125 maternity care providers of the observed facilities.
Objective: Despite a reduction in maternal mortality in recent years, a high rate of anaemia and other nutrient inadequacies during pregnancy pose a serious threat to mothers and their children in the Global South. Using the framework of the WHO-Commission on Social Determinants of Health, this study examines the socioeconomic, programmatic and contextual factors associated with the consumption of iron and folic acid (IFA) tablets/syrup for at least 100 d (IFA100) and receiving supplementary food (SF) by pregnant women in India.
