This article presents the case of an 81-year-old male referred to the maxillofacial department for extensive lower lip squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). While SCC of the lip is among the most easily detectable and treatable malignancies, surgical treatment can sometimes lead to significant defects, impacting both lip function and facial aesthetics. The patient underwent a comprehensive W-type excision and primary closure, complemented by a right suprahyoid neck dissection.

By underlining the role of a functional p53 in safeguarding skin cells from UVR-induced damage, this work underscores the potential significance of targeting mutp53, aiming to restore its wild-type-like activity (reactivation), as a protective strategy against skin cancer (SC), particularly NMSC. Most importantly, an interesting crosstalk between p53 and its vitamin D receptor (VDR) transcriptional target is also highlighted in the suppression of skin carcinogenesis, which opens the way to promising chemopreventive strategies involving synergistic combinations between mutp53 reactivators and vitamin D.

This study aimed to verify whether the combined application of jabuticaba and strawberry extracts at five different concentrations could enhance oxidative stability and microbiological quality of pork burgers over 12 days of storage at 4 °C. The anthocyanins in these extracts were quantified by HPLC-DAD and identified by LC-MS/MS. Pelargonidin-3-glucoside was highlighted as the predominant anthocyanin in jabuticaba extract, while cyanidin-3-glucoside was the main constituent in strawberry extract.

Role of K and Ca Channels in the Vasodilator Effects of (Brazilian Boldo) in Hypertensive Rats.

, popularly known as Brazilian boldo, is used in Brazilian folk medicine to treat cardiovascular disorders including hypertension. This study investigated the chemical profile by UFLC-DAD-MS and the relaxant effect by using an isolated organ bath of the hydroethanolic extract of (HEPB) leaves on the aorta of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). A total of nineteen compounds were annotated from HEPB, and the main metabolite classes found were flavonoids, diterpenoids, cinnamic acid derivatives, and organic acids.

Maternal and child nutrition programme of investigation within the 100 Million Brazilian Cohort: study protocol.

Introduction: There is a limited understanding of the early nutrition and pregnancy determinants of short-term and long-term maternal and child health in ethnically diverse and socioeconomically vulnerable populations within low-income and middle-income countries. This investigation programme aims to: (1) describe maternal weight trajectories throughout the life course; (2) describe child weight, height and body mass index (BMI) trajectories; (3) create and validate models to predict childhood obesity at 5 years of age; (4) estimate the effects of prepregnancy BMI, gestational weight gain (GWG) and maternal weight trajectories on adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes and child growth trajectories; (5) estimate the effects of prepregnancy BMI, GWG, maternal weight and interpregnancy BMI changes on maternal and child outcomes in the subsequent pregnancy; and (6) estimate the effects of maternal food consumption and infant feeding practices on child nutritional status and growth trajectories.

Ten years of field research and collaborative development of programs for early childhood in the Upper Rio Negro region of the Amazon provide the authors with new metaphors for achieving wider social impact and new frames to add to the international debate on 'scaling' social change initiatives. Using anthropology and ethno-ontology to think questions of universal and particular, center and periphery, the article reflects on the dangers of monolithic scaling to cultural diversity and future innovation. Instead of the metaphor of scaling - adopted in the discourse of public policy and international development from the Fordist or Taylorist efficiency of the economy of scale - indigenous people speak of exchange, sharing, and transformation.
