The aim of the present study was to gather information regarding the molecular epidemiology of Human papillomavirus (HPV) and related risk factors in a group of women with low- and high-grade cervical lesions and cancer from the coastal region of Ecuador. In addition, we studied the evolution of HPV variants from the most prevalent types and provided a temporal framework for their emergence, which may help to trace the source of dissemination within the region. We analyzed 166 samples, including 57 CIN1, 95 CIN2/3 and 14 cancer cases.

Objective: To analyze the intensity of these symptoms in relation to the genetic variants of the rs743572 polymorphism of the CYP17 A1 gene in postmenopausal women.
Methods: DNA was extracted from the whole blood of 168 natural postmenopausal women (40-65 years) and tested for the rs743572 polymorphism of the CYP17 A1 gene.
Background: Higher 1st trimester maternal serum levels of interferon-induced protein 10 (IP-10) and interferon inducible T-cell alpha chemoattractant (ITAC) are reported in gestations complicated with preeclampsia. However, parallel results in the fetal circulation are lacking.
Objective: To compare IP-10 and ITAC levels in neonatal cord blood from gestations complicated by severe preeclampsia vs.
