Background: Atypical processing of unfamiliar, but less so familiar, stimuli has been described in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in particular in relation to face processing. We examined the construct of familiarity in ASD using familiar and unfamiliar songs, to investigate the link between familiarity and autism symptoms, such as repetitive behavior.

Methods: Forty-eight children, 24 with ASD (21 males, mean age = 9.

Introduction: Antioxidants such as lycopene (LCP) and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) represent ideal molecules for the treatment of different reactive oxygen species (ROS) associated disorders. Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic agent, causing an increase in ROS and DNA damage, with numerous side effects, which include lung toxicity. In the presents study, we evaluated and mutually compared the potential of LCP and CAPE in preventing cisplatin-induced rat lung damage.

: There is significant overlap in the type of structural language impairments exhibited by children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This similarity suggests that the cognitive impairment(s) contributing to the structural language deficits in ASD and ADHD may be shared. Previous studies have speculated that procedural memory deficits may be the shared cognitive impairment.

Aim: Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is an organic chemical that produces different tissue‑damaging effects when ingested or inhaled. Present study aims to determine whether the application of exogenous melatonin, a neurohormone with numerous biological properties, can prevent disturbances in lung tissue antioxidative capacities and arginine metabolism, tissue inflammation and oxidative damage induced by exposure to CCl4 in rats.

Methods: The effects of melatonin on the changes occurring in rat lung tissue after an acute exposure to CCl4 were studied by monitoring alterations in antioxidant capacities, inflammatory parameters, parameters of arginine metabolism, and lipid and protein oxidative damage.

Objective: The aim of the study was to estimate the seroprevalence of HIV infection among TB patients, knowledge, self-perceived risks and testing practices related to HIV.

Methods: We performed cross-sectional study from 10 May to 15 July 2011. Cluster sampling method was used to select 27 hospitals where 289 TB patients were consecutively recruited.

Objective: The purposes of this study were to examine the therapeutic response of advanced cervical cancer to Ki-67 proliferative index (Ki-67 PI) dependent cisplatin chemotherapy, and to determine Ki-67 PI referential value that is expected to provide a satisfactory therapeutic response of cervical cancer to cisplatin chemotherapy.

Patients And Methods: This prospective study enrolled 59 patients treated for cervical cancer at Clinic for Oncology, Clinical Center Nis, Serbia. According to the obtained Ki-67 PI values, patients were divided into three groups, and all the patients received the same cytostatic, cisplatin.

Article Synopsis
  • * This study developed quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models for arylcarboxamides as InhA inhibitors using molecular descriptors and the Monte Carlo method for model development and validation.
  • * Findings indicated that the QSAR model's predictions were accurate and reliable, and the research supports the potential of designing new compounds for TB treatment targeting InhA inhibition.

Purpose: The grey-bluish discoloration of gingiva (known as "amalgam tattoo") does not appear only in the presence of amalgam restorations. It may also be seen in cases of teeth restored with cast dowels and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations. The aim of this article was to determine the clinical characteristics of abutment teeth with gingival discoloration.

Background: During the treatment phase of active pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), respiratory function impairment is usually restrictive. This may become obstructive, as a PTB-associated airflow obstruction (AFO) or as a later manifestation of underlying COPD.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine the potential causes and risks for AFO development in PTB by exploring the aspects of spirometry limitations and clinical implications for the underlying COPD detection, taking into account various confounding factors.

Introduction: Restorative dental treatment of patients with a generalized form of amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) remains a challenge even today. The treatment approach is multidisciplinary and includes action of several dental disciplines such as restorative, orthodontic, and prosthetic dental specialties.

Case Report: A 18-year-old female patent was referred to the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology at the Military Medical Academy of Belgrade, Serbia.

Introduction: Patient-oriented therapy represents a modern approach in the treatment of patients with diabetes, an approach which is supported in the most recent guidelines by the ADA and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). The progressive nature of diabetes demands the introduction of insulin therapy much earlier in order to prevent the development of late complications of the disease.

Material And Methods: The study included 30 patients who had been treated with long-acting insulin analogue and metformin in doses of 3 x 850 mg at least 6 months prior to study entry and in which a good glycaemic control had not been achieved, or with HbA1c > 7%.

Foreign-body tracheobronchial aspiration in adults is fairly rare, and it is caused mostly by the failure of airway protective mechanisms. The symptoms of this clinical entity can mimic many other respiratory diseases, such as recurrent or non-resolving pneumonia, asthma, lung neoplasm etc. Flexible bronchoscopy was indicated in this situation, both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Aim: To investigate the impact of some parameters of lung function (forced expiratory volumen in 1 second - FEV1, forced vital capacity - FVC and ratio FEV1/FVC%) on survival in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: It retrospectively analyzed data of 155 patients with NSCLC receiving second-line treatment in the Clinic for Lung Diseases, Clinical Center Nis, Serbia, from October 2009 to December 2012. Fifteen potential prognostic variables were subjected to univariate and multivariate analysis to investigate prognostic impact to survival.

Purpose: Nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) dental alloys have been widely used in prosthodontic practice, but there is a permanent concern about their biocompatibility due to the release of metal ions. This is especially important when Ni-Cr metal microparticles are incorporated into gingival tissue during prosthodontic procedures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine and compare the corrosion and cytotoxic properties of compact specimens and microparticles of Ni-Cr dental alloy.

Introduction: Certain pro-inflammatory indices serum levels, such as leucocytes count and C-reactive protein appears to be a significant and simple clinical tool in prediction of unfavorable course of liver cirrhosis, its complications due to the bacterial infections, length ofhospitalisation and lethal outcome. Cirrhotic patients often have a complications due to bacterial infection, demanding the unexpected need for hospitalization in 30% to 50% of the cases. THE AIM of this study was to assess the impact of pro-inflammatory indices in patients with liver cirrhosis, in relation to bacterial infection and their evaluation as possible prognostic factors on functional liver deterioration, length of hospitalization and lethal outcome.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to establish the vaginal introitus microbial flora in girls with and without symptoms of vulvovaginitis, and to present the distribution of isolated microorganisms by age groups in girls with vulvovaginitis. We enrolled 500 girls with vulvovaginitis symptoms, aged 2-12 years, referred by their pediatricians for microbiological examination of the vaginal introitus swabs, and 30 age-matched asymptomatic girls. Similar microbial flora was isolated in both groups, but the symptomatic girls had significantly more common positive microbiological findings compared to controls (p < 0.

In this paper, a research that deals with the problem of determining of the visibility of the alphanumeric presentation on CRT and LCD screens is presented, in conditions when the screen filters are used, and when they are not used. A methodology that can be used for determination of the visibility of alphanumeric symbols on VDT screens is presented. It is determined the existence of differences in visibility of alphanumeric presentations when screen filters are used, compared to conditions when they are not used.
