An alternative to these products is the use of bacteriophages, which may effectively prevent the colonization of Gallinarum.

How the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix 2022 Mass Gathering Event Compares to the Arbon Model: A Descriptive Study.

Objective: To describe the health-care resources implemented during the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix (F1GP) and to calculate the patient presentation rate (PPR) based on both real data and a prediction model.

Methods: Observational and descriptive study conducted from September 9 to September 11, 2022, during the Italian F1GP hosted in Monza (Italy). Maurer's formula was applied to decide the number and type of health resources to be allocated.

Allogeneic peripheral blood haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for the treatment of dogs with high-grade B-cell lymphoma.

Autologous peripheral blood haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) cures 33%-40% of dogs with high-grade B-cell lymphoma. We hypothesized, based on human allogeneic bone marrow transplantation literature, that transplanting dogs using canine donor leukocyte-matched CD34+ cells would lead to fewer relapses and increased cure rates. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of dogs diagnosed with high-grade B-cell lymphoma who received an identical allogeneic HCT.

Objective: To describe the technique of centrifugal therapeutic plasma exchange (cTPE) in dogs diagnosed with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) and summarize the outcome of the procedure.

Design: Retrospective review of cTPE performed at North Carolina State University from 2016 to 2018, through a search of the institutional database for cTPE and IMHA.

A Retrospective Analysis: Autologous Peripheral Blood Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Combined With Adoptive T-Cell Therapy for the Treatment of High-Grade B-Cell Lymphoma in Ten Dogs.

In humans, a type of cellular immunotherapy, called adoptive T cell transfer (ACT), can elicit curative responses against hematological malignancies and melanoma. ACT using expanded peripheral blood T-cells after multiagent chemotherapy enhances tumor-free survival of dogs with B-cell lymphoma (LSA). Since 2008, our group has been performing autologous peripheral blood hematopoietic stem cell transplants (autoPBHSCT) for the treatment of canine high-grade B-cell LSA, although relapse of residual disease is a common cause of reduced survival in ~70% of treated dogs.

Interthalamic adhesion is an inconstant part of the human diencephalic neuroanatomy, which some histological studies have indicated it is a gray commissure and others a white commissure. Its presence has been associated with alterations in health status, including schizophrenia, psychotic states, and hydrocephalus. Thirty-one fresh human brains were evaluated randomly, to determine the presence of interthalamic adhesion and its histological composition, by way of lamina terminalis puncture of the third ventricle.

Palliative Oncological Patients with Insomnia: Concerns of the Patients and Their Relatives' Perception.

Insomnia is one of the most frequent symptoms and usually generates significant stress in 60% of patients with advanced cancer. Worries from the patients' and relatives' perspective are crucial to improve the patients' quality of life but have received limited attention. The aims were to identify the concerns of patients with insomnia in the terminal illness stage in a palliative care unit and the relatives' perception, and to compare both.

The H2020 CAPTOR project deployed three testbeds in Spain, Italy and Austria with low-cost sensors for the measurement of tropospheric ozone (O). The aim of the H2020 CAPTOR project was to raise public awareness in a project focused on citizen science. Each testbed was supported by an NGO in charge of deciding how to raise citizen awareness according to the needs of each country.

Clinical Application of Apheresis in Very Small Dogs Weighing <8 kg to Pediatric Patients.

Apheresis in low body weight children and adolescents is challenging due to a variety of technical and clinical issues including vascular access, low total blood volume, and hypotension. Although dogs have been a valuable preclinical model for apheresis, the procedure can be challenging since many pure-bred dogs are extremely small. Therefore, apheresis in these very small breeds presents very similar challenges as seen when performing the procedure in very low body weight people.

African dust and air quality over Spain: Is it only dust that matters?

The 2001-2016 contribution of African dust outbreaks to ambient regional background PM10 and PM2.5 levels over Spain, as well as changes induced in the PMx composition over NE Spain in 2009-2016, were investigated. A clear decrease in PMx dust contributions from the Canary Islands to N Iberia was found.

While exposure to traffic pollutants significantly decreases with distance from the curb, very dense urban architectures hamper such dispersion. Moreover, the building height reduces significantly the dispersion of pollutants. We have investigated the horizontal variability of Black Carbon (BC) and the vertical variability of NO and BC within the urban blocks.

Distributed Multi-Scale Calibration of Low-Cost Ozone Sensors in Wireless Sensor Networks.

New advances in sensor technologies and communications in wireless sensor networks have favored the introduction of low-cost sensors for monitoring air quality applications. In this article, we present the results of the European project H2020 CAPTOR, where three testbeds with sensors were deployed to capture tropospheric ozone concentrations. One of the biggest challenges was the calibration of the sensors, as the manufacturer provides them without calibrating.

Testing the performance of sensors for ozone pollution monitoring in a citizen science approach.

Tropospheric ozone (O) is an environmental pollutant of growing concern, especially in suburban and rural areas where the density of air quality monitoring stations is not high. In this type of areas citizen science strategies can be useful tools for awareness raising, but sensor technologies must be validated before sensor data are communicated to the public. In this work, the performance under field conditions of two custom-made types of ozone sensing devices, based on metal-oxide and electrochemical sensors, was tested.

The identification and development of biomarkers which predict response of muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients to neoadjuvant chemotherapy would likely increase usage of this treatment option and thereby improve patient survival rates. MiRNA array and qRT-PCR validation was used to identify miRNA which are associated with response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. RNA was extracted from a total of 41 archival, fully annotated, MIBC patient diagnostic biopsies (20 chemo-responders and 21 non-responders (response is defined as > 5 year survival rate and being pT0 post-chemotherapy)).

Secondary organic aerosol origin in an urban environment: influence of biogenic and fuel combustion precursors.

Source contributions of organic aerosol (OA) are still not fully understood, especially in terms of quantitative distinction between secondary OA formed from anthropogenic precursors vs. that formed from natural precursors. In order to investigate the OA origin, a field campaign was carried out in Barcelona in summer 2013, including two periods characterized by low and high traffic conditions.

Detection of resistance to beta-lactamase inhibitors in strains with CTX-M beta-lactamases: a multicenter external proficiency study using a well-defined collection of Escherichia coli strains.

Under the auspices of the Spanish Society for Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Quality Control program, 14 Escherichia coli strains masked as blood culture isolates were sent to 68 clinical microbiology laboratories for antimicrobial susceptibility testing to β-lactam antibiotics. The rate at which mutations are generated is central to the pace of evolution. Although this rate is remarkably similar amongst all cellular organisms, bacterial strains with mutation rates 100 fold greater than the modal rates of their species are commonly isolated from natural sources and emerge in experimental populations. Theoretical studies postulate and empirical studies teort the hypotheses that these "mutator" strains evolved in response to selection for elevated rates of generation of inherited variation that enable bacteria to adapt to novel and/or rapidly changing environments.

In vitro selection of variants resistant to beta-lactams plus beta-lactamase inhibitors in CTX-M beta-lactamases: predicting the in vivo scenario?

CTX-M β-lactamases are the most prevalent group of enzymes within the extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL). The therapeutic options for CTX-M-carrying isolates are scarce, forcing the reexamination of the therapeutic possibilities of β-lactams plus β-lactamase inhibitors (BBLIs). Inhibitor-resistant CTX-M β-lactamases (IR-CTX-M) have not hitherto been described in natural isolates.

MiR-34a chemosensitizes bladder cancer cells to cisplatin treatment regardless of p53-Rb pathway status.

MiR-34a is a downstream effector of p53 that has been shown to target several molecules associated with cell cycle and cell survival pathways. As alterations in these pathways are frequent in muscle invasive transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (MI-TCC), for example mutation or loss of p53 and Rb, the goal of this study was to determine whether manipulation of miR-34a expression levels could abrogate the effect of these alterations and sensitize bladder cancer cells to chemotherapy. We demonstrate that transfection of T24, TCCSUP and 5637 with pre-miR-34a followed by cisplatin treatment results in a dramatic reduction in clonogenic potential and induction of senescence compared to treatment with cisplatin alone.
