An anchored marine seismometer, acquiring real-time seismic data, has been built and tested. The system consists of an underwater seismometer, a surface buoy, and a mooring line that connects them. The complex of [10]cycloparaphenylene ([10]CPP) with bis(azafullerene) (C N) is investigated experimentally and computationally. Two [10]CPP rings are bound to the dimeric azafullerene giving [10]CPP⊃(C N) ⊂[10]CPP. Photophysical and redox properties support an electronic interaction between the components especially when the second [10]CPP is bound.

Role of cellular prion protein in interneuronal amyloid transmission.

The value of oligoclonal bands in the multiple sclerosis diagnostic criteria.

The presence of oligoclonal bands in clinically isolated syndromes is an independent risk factor for developing multiple sclerosis and has been largely excluded from the more recent multiple sclerosis diagnostic criteria. Therefore, our objective was to explore the value of oligoclonal bands in the context of the 2010 McDonald criteria, especially in patients fulfilling exclusively dissemination in space at baseline. For this purpose, we selected 566 patients from a clinically isolated syndrome inception cohort who had IgG oligoclonal bands determination and sufficient data on baseline brain MRI to assess dissemination in space and time.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to tissue damage and remodelling mediated by the inflammatory response after injury. Here we show that ROS, which promote axonal dieback and degeneration after injury, are also required for axonal regeneration and functional recovery after spinal injury. We find that ROS production in the injured sciatic nerve and dorsal root ganglia requires CX3CR1-dependent recruitment of inflammatory cells.

Aging-related tau astrogliopathy (ARTAG): not only tau phosphorylation in astrocytes.

Aging-related tau astrogliopathy (ARTAG) is defined by the presence of two types of tau-bearing astrocytes: thorn-shaped astrocytes (TSAs) and granular/fuzzy astrocytes in the brain of old-aged individuals. The present study is focused on TSAs in rare forms of ARTAG with no neuronal tau pathology or restricted to entorhinal and transentorhinal cortices, to avoid bias from associated tauopathies. TSAs show 4Rtau phosphorylation at several specific sites and abnormal tau conformation, but they lack ubiquitin and they are not immunostained with tau-C3 antibodies which recognize truncated tau at Asp421.

Effects of repeated long-term psychosocial stress and acute cannabinoid exposure on mouse corticostriatal circuitries: Implications for neuropsychiatric disorders.

Introduction: Vulnerability to psychiatric manifestations is achieved by the influence of genetic and environment including stress and cannabis consumption. Here, we used a psychosocial stress model based on resident-intruder confrontations to study the brain corticostriatal-function, since deregulation of corticostriatal circuitries has been reported in many psychiatric disorders. CB receptors are widely expressed in the central nervous system and particularly, in both cortex and striatum brain structures.

Effect of the Addition of Yeast Cell Walls to Diets with Mycotoxins on the Performance and Immune Responses of Broilers.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of yeast cell walls (YCWs) in diets with low doses of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and ochratoxin A (OTA), alone or in combination, on broiler performance and immune response. A total of 210 male broilers aged 1-21 days were used. Broilers were completely randomized into seven treatments with five replicates of six broilers each, as follows: 1) control diet; 2) control + 350 g/kg AFB1; 3) Control + 350 g/kg OTA; 4) Control + 350 g/kg AFB1 and 350 g/kg OTA; 5) Control + 350 g/kg AFB1 and 1.

Investigating population continuity with ancient DNA under a spatially explicit simulation framework.

Background: Recent advances in sequencing technologies have allowed for the retrieval of ancient DNA data (aDNA) from skeletal remains, providing direct genetic snapshots from diverse periods of human prehistory. Comparing samples taken in the same region but at different times, hereafter called "serial samples", may indicate whether there is continuity in the peopling history of that area or whether an immigration of a genetically different population has occurred between the two sampling times. However, the exploration of genetic relationships between serial samples generally ignores their geographical locations and the spatiotemporal dynamics of populations.

The lignins from different anatomical parts of macaúba (Acrocomia aculeata) palm fruit, namely stalks, epicarp, and endocarp, were studied. The lignin from stalks was enriched in S-lignin units (S/G 1.2) and β-ether linkages (84% of the total) and was partially acylated at the γ-OH of the lignin side-chains (26% lignin acylation), predominantly with p-hydroxybenzoates and acetates.

Background: New biorefinery concepts are necessary to drive industrial use of lignocellulose biomass components. Xylan recovery before enzymatic hydrolysis of the glucan component is a way to add value to the hemicellulose fraction, which can be used in papermaking, pharmaceutical, and food industries. Hemicellulose removal can also facilitate subsequent cellulolytic glucan hydrolysis.

NLRP3 polymorphisms and response to interferon-beta in multiple sclerosis patients.

We aimed to investigate whether NLR family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) polymorphisms are associated with the response to interferon-beta (IFNβ) in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. A total of 14 NLRP3 polymorphisms were genotyped in a cohort of 665 relapsing-remitting MS patients recruited across 5 centers and classified into responders and non-responders according to clinical-radiological criteria after 1 year of IFNβ treatment. A meta-analysis failed to demonstrate significant associations between the response to IFNβ and NLRP3 polymorphisms.

Long-term outcomes and management of the heart transplant recipient.

Lesion topographies in multiple sclerosis diagnosis: A reappraisal.

Objectives: To assess the contributions of cortico-juxtacortical and corpus callosum lesions to multiple sclerosis diagnosis and to compare the value of ≥1 vs ≥3 periventricular lesions in clinically isolated syndromes (CIS).

Methods: Step 1: We evaluated lesion topography classifications in 657 patients with CIS with stepwise Cox proportional hazards regression models considering second attack as the outcome. Step 2: We established 2 dissemination in space (DIS) versions according to the periventricular lesion cutoffs of ≥1 and ≥3 and assessed their performance at 10 years with second attack as the outcome, first individually and then combined with dissemination in time (DIT) in all cases (n = 326), by age, and by CIS topography.
