Background: Intracranial aneurysm with and without subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a relevant health problem: The overall incidence is about 9 per 100,000 with a wide range, in some countries up to 20 per 100,000. Mortality rate with conservative treatment within the first months is 50-60%. About one third of patients left with an untreated aneurysm will die from recurrent bleeding within 6 months after recovering from the first bleeding.

Background: Acute subdural haematoma (aSDH) is a rare complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and is associated with poor clinical condition on admission and poor outcome.
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess whether aneurysmal aSDH is an independent risk factor for poor outcome.
Methods: In a series of 1632 patients retrieved from our prospectively collected single centre SAH database and fulfilling prespecified inclusion criteria, we found 53 patients with aSDH on the initial CT scan.
Many studies have assessed the relationships between seasonal or meteorological determinants and the occurrence of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), but the data are conflicting. We systematically searched the literature and meta-analyzed data from all relevant articles when possible. Methods: Databases PubMed, PsychINFO, and CINAHL were used to identify empirical studies reporting on quantitative relationships between possible determinants and QoL in persons with aneurysmal SAH and published in English.

Methods: We searched Medline and EMBASE for articles published between January 1985 and July 2011. For all studies fulfilling the predefined criteria, we obtained risk ratios (RRs) or odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for female risk factors.
Background: A delay in diagnosing aneurismal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) occurs in a substantial proportion of patients who present with headache as the only symptom.
Objective: To identify determinants for a delay in referral in patients with SAH, who present with isolated headache to the general practitioner (GP).

Within the International Subarachnoid Aneurysm Trial we assessed differences in incidence of delayed cerebral ischemia and clinical outcome between different timings of treatment.
Methods: The treated 2106 patients randomized to coiling or clipping were divided into 4 categories: treatment <2 days, on days 3 to 4, on days 5 to 10, and >10 days after the hemorrhage.
Background: Magnesium sulphate is a neuroprotective agent that might improve outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage by reducing the occurrence or improving the outcome of delayed cerebral ischaemia. The transforming growth factor-β pathway may be involved in aneurysm development in general.
